The Negative:
Over half of the US budget goes toward paying interest on the national debt. If we weren\'t in debt, maybe our
tax dollars could go to other things...
People are dumb when it comes to the budget. If we spend too much, we
have a deficit and people complain about the government spending too much. If we have a balanced budget, people
rejoice but we never get to paying off our debt. If we actually accumulate money, people start thinking of ways to
SPEND the extra money or...get this...give it back to the taxpayers because the government shouldn\'t be
profitting from them but only have the money they need. Nobody says, \"Hey, we should pay off some of our debt
with this extra money. In fact, it\'s not extra money because we could always pay off our debt with it.\"
The
Positive: As my AP US History/Economics teacher once said, \"Who cares if we have so much debt? Is there going to
be a \'Judgement Day\'? Will all of the debt collectors suddenly say, \'Okay, pay up now or we\'ll destroy
your government.\'? Besides, who owns the debt? United States citizens are funding over 90% of the national
debt, so who cares? The US owes the money, the US is owed the money, and the US is good for the money. Where\'s
the problem?\"
