Default Johnny Depp

visit-red-300x50PNG
... turned up at the UCLA

Medical Center/Pediatric Unit in his Captain Jack Sparrow drag. He spent a lot of time with the little patients, and

never broke character. The kids LOVED him.

Guy does a lot of stuff, like that. He\'s thought to be not only one of

the finer artists, but one of the best people, in that industry.

BTW-- After the filming of \"Pirates,\" he

missed his family. So, he immediately sped off to Europe. When he got home, he remembered that he still had his

costume dental prosthetics in-- and the guy who could take them out was 6,000 miles away. ROFL!

I certainly thought he was pretty damn good in Pirates, almost

the making of the film.

Well ok, perhaps I wouldn\'t go that far (I\'m not gay or \'out).

And, gracious-- he was apparently both effusive and genuine

He should have gotten it for Dead Man Walking.

BTW, Lord of the Rings makes no sense, and

no I didn\'t read the book, nor will I ever.

<hr /></blockquote><font class=\"post\">

There might have been a little artistic politics involved, is the

consensus. Because the flick was gorgeous, but too long-- some people loved it, some found it \"the best cure for

insomnia.\" I couldn\'t watch the whole thing, myself. Billy Crystal got in a couple of digs about the length.

There has been an ongoing issue that no sci-fi/fantasy flick has ever been seriously considered for an academy

award. Nominations, but no wins.

Spielberg was dissed by the academy for a long time, because they pronounced

his flicks \"too comic book.\" So, he came back and shoved \"Schindler\'s List\" up their noses. Since then,

he has been taken very seriously.

There is some discussion re: whether Sofia Coppola is really that good a

director, yet, too. But, no woman has ever hitherto won, either.

Being a Sci Fi fan myself, I

don\'t think there is a lot of bias that goes on.

I can tell you, there are just not a lot of good ones out

there.

I guess comedy though has the same gripe.

As for Fantasy, that is a bit different than sci-fi.

All

I know is I fell a sleep in the theater during the first two Lord of the Rings and would rather give TM, Ash, DST

and Dogsbutt a sponge bath than see the third.

That stuff is for people who read Harry Potter books.

Lord of the Rings. I was bored silly.

Me, too. I go to movies to be entertained. Thought, I DID think \"Schindler\" was a tour de

force. Though \"Schindler\" was PROBABLY the wrong choice of flick to see the day after I was laid off from a job.

&lt;g&gt;

Movie trivia-- Sly Stallone was first choice for the Indiana Jones role. He turned it down, and

Harrison Ford was cast.

Movie trivia about Indiana Jones-- Indie was supposed to fight the guy with the sword--

not shoot him. But, Ford had caught disentery, and had to urgently leave the set. But the shot was so funny, it was

wrapped.

More movie trivia about Ford-- When Harrison Ford was called in for a the first \"Star Wars\"

reading, he was told that he would NOT be considered for the part. He was just to read against the actors for some

of the other roles. He was a little disgusted, so he read it \"wise ass.\" Lucas liked it, and he was cast.

Cage

Actually, I have an old copy of \"L\'Histoire d\'Adele H.\" AND the Dutch/French flick,

\"The Vanishing.\" So, I DO like SOME dark stuff. &lt;g&gt;

BTW-- AVOID the American version of \"The

The ONLY good American remake that I can think of, right now, is \"The Outrage,\" which was a remake of

\"Roshomon.\"

obvious and heavy handed.

<hr /></blockquote><font class=\"post\"> At one time there was talk of a Hollywood

remake of Belle du Jour

Luckily we´ve so far been spared of this YIKES!!!

We\'d probably make \"Belle de Jour\" into

another sort of \"Pretty Woman\" or \"Sweet Charity.\" A \"feel-good flick about a hooker.\" With a happy

ending, of course.

Another great French flick-- \"Garde a Vue.\" LOVED it!

right yeah they relied too much on those type

of things.

IMVMO-- We\'ve got a little too

far into fx, and a little too far away from character-driven.

<hr /></blockquote><font class=\"post\"> A bit

of a story would have been nice. I mean the ship sinks but that´s all that happens

the characters were rubbish and were too boring (and too

young)considering that DiCaprio and Winslet are pretty good actors. If they´d mixed the effects and the overall

production - the ship etc but taken the sript of A night to remember, or at least in this direction, it good have

been great IMO
But I think J Cameron is not a person sensitive director, he´s more for action, but at those he´s

good I think

I didn´t understand why they made another film

about the titanic but who cares now, I was just glad when all

that hype settled again

if you ask me, the average

american who makes these movies hits arnt the brightest bulbs! too much depth in a movie confuses them and suddenly

it sucks, characters having personailities is something like film suicide :P

the people on this form seem to have

brains and can see good films for good films and when a film is lackin its picked up easily. ah true thinkers, no

wonder i like it here

Well the story of the

Lord of the rings would probably be difficult to comprehend without reading the books first, but first of all it

requires a certain way of perception the west has largely lost (numbed by all the cheap stories i would say). The

movie went too far with it\'s hour long happyend (two words and sixty minutes of tears and hugging), surfing

legolas and leaving out important parts of the story and coming up with new ones Tolkien wouldn\'t dream of. The

original story however, is valuable in the sense of 1)having more depth than anything published in the last century

2)ressurecting our sense for mythology (not in all cases, obviously). Unlike the movie, the book was aimed at an

educated audience.
Out of curiosity, I would like to ask the people who didn\'t like the story whether they have

read and enjoyed some of the real classics like Dante\'s Divine comedy, Goethe\'s Faust etc, or reaching into a

more recent period, Exupery\'s Little prince. What all of those have in common (and LOTR too, to a certain degree)

is their philosophical symbolism, which not everybody really feels. The Little prince is a brilliant example of a

book that some people consider a brilliant probe into the human being, and for others its just plain bullsh*t.
