Good car doesn\'t equal good guy. That\'s true!

But tell me that if you saw two guys pull up onto the drive way, one with a 1989 Hatchback, and another with a BMW

Z3, and both are pretty decent looking, I think your first reaction may be to check out the guy with the better car.

It may not be the \"Determining\" factor of whether you\'d stay with him, but you will probably notice him

\"first\", giving him \"the edge\" (pun intended). Tis all I\'m saying.

<hr /></blockquote><font

class=\"post\"> NO! Once again.
I´m less likely to get into a car like a Porsche than say a Pick-up truck!

Sitting in a Porsche feels like you´re wiping the road with your backside

but that´s not the main reason. Porsche has becaome so cliched

somehow too...
If one of these two cars were a nice oldtimer though - I´d certainly check the guy out more closely

but BMW or the like are just too common

Europeans are not

less wealthy than americans but we do care about the environment more that´s true (and we´re proud it, at least I

am). But europeans are still car nuts to some degree but we have to be older to get a license 17 - 18 most

countries I think, not so sure. Remember that BMW and Mercedes and VW are european cars.
Perhaps that´s why I,

for instance am not as impressed by these cars because they´re just about everywhere over here, they´re nothing

special for me.
What´s more important to me is whether or not I have a car - not the guy I´m seeing

In the UK, a

lot people I have known don´t have a lisence or a car but not because of the environment, it is just because they

simply can´t afford it, expecially in London ( if you can pay your rent you´re lucky already)- don´t matter really

as there´s nowhere to park anyway

PS I don´t put a Porsche

and a BMW into the same category, they´re worlds apart.

Cars here, cars there - I have a soft spot for bikers

myself

In the end it´s all down to personal tastes.

But of

course. I\'m just saying a nice car gives a lot of people an edge, and we know it\'s true

I\'m not saying you\'ll like him JUST for the car.. just merely

a good impression that gives the guy notice... and the he may be doing something right to have gotten that car. (But

still those who just get a car from their rich family).

It\'s always good to hear and see people who can

care less about it. I was merely stating that a nice car can \"signify\" a successful life... I mean it could also

be the way the person\'s dressed, the house he/she has, etc. It\'s just the whole first impression thing.

I agree with

you that a nice car is very important to many women. I think the ladies here just want to drive the point home (no

pun intended) that there are also plenty of women that don\'t care much about it.

class=\"post\">

What type of college education? Do you want an engineer with a PhD who can\'t talk in

complete sentences, farts in public, and chews with his mouth open, but can devise a great circuit board and gets

paid mucho dinero to do it, or do you want the liberal arts grad who is able to eloquently converse on a multitude

of subjects, but is unemployed due to the fact that his Western Civilization BA degree just isn\'t in demand in a

poor job market (or any job market for that matter)?

In my experience, a college education doesn\'t mean jack

squat when your generalizing about the level of quality in people. I know people with PhD\'s who are absolute

morons (I got a buddy who has three Masters and a PhD, and he\'s a complete idiot), and I know people with no

degree whatsoever other than a high school diploma who are light years ahead of the general masses in terms of

conversational intellectualism and social interaction.

However, a good liberal arts education will generally

allow a person to have a greater understanding of the world around them than not. (\"Professional\" degrees such

as engineering and business are not, in my estimation, college educations. They are training platforms forced on

institutions by the industrial revolution robber barons in order to obtain huge donations and the like. You want to

understand business? Screw the MBA, and start in the mailroom. Keep your lousy, money grubbing capitalistic

consumerisms out of my education.)

(BTW - I\'ve got two worthless BA\'s, and am trying to get out of the

Marketing/Sales business and do something productive with my life rather than schlepping crap people could do

without.)

I drove an \'85

Mercury Lynx (the \"upgrade\" from the Ford Escort) for 14 years until the SOB just kept breaking to the point

where fixing her every month cost more than a new car payment. Never seemed to have a problem getting hotties with

that ride (and I kept that baby straight stock, right down to the AM only radio).

A car to me is simply a

utilitarian device to get you from point A to point B. Any car currently available will do that. Sure some people

buy into the concept that a car is a status symbol and equate ownership with power and money and whatever else they

need to help them get through the day thinking they are a success. Personally, I think that there are a lot of

other things that one can spend their money on and get more enjoyment from - like my stereo system is about $35k,

but I can enjoy that year round and don\'t have to worry about getting jammed up in county for a couple of days by

some overzealous deputy who nailed me for going twice the posted in my $110,000 911 Turbo.

Yeah it\'s all about preference. There are people who say money spent on

a nice car could be spent elsewhere, and there would be people saying a 35k stereo system could\'ve been spent

elsewhere. In my personal opinion, a safer vehicle is more important to me than any stereo system... The nice look

Now I\'m thinking you can power a CLUB with

Not really. I\'m not some pretentious prick driving it down the

street. The sucker is firmly rooted in my front room, and there ain\'t many people other than top level

audiophiles who would even recognize any of the stuff in my stereo system. It\'s not to impress anybody, but

simply to allow me to listen to recordings as if the performer was right in the room. To get there, it costs a few

bucks, but I certainly didn\'t put it together in order to impress anyone other than myself when I listen to

music.

If I really wanted to impress someone with a status symbol, I sure as hell wouldn\'t have drove a

crappy Mercury Lynx with only an AM radio for 14 years, or chose a Subaru Outback as it\'s successor.

Not only

did this go on but, it took forever for anyone involved in the company to live up to this (if they are even now).

Many of the survivors are still alive, as I saw on one episode of \"The Awful Truth\" with Michael Moore, they

went down to the headquarters to complain and such. The fact that they prospered is the problem with little lashback

from anyone. That should be taken into consideration along with Nike\'s sweatshops which even then don\'t seem

as bad.....

I would

have to humbly disagree. I have found, in all cases of my encounters with a HS educated person vs a College educated

person, that the College educated person had more of an open mind and understanding of world... ability to adapt

better to change, etc. But thus far, that\'s just me.

I\'m not saying EVERYONE is all that, in college.

I\'ve met brilliant and \"special\" people in college. I\'m just saying if you took the exact same person

under HS education, then put him/her through College education, there will be a difference. Whole new different

scenario, and education system, with a much more diverse environment of people of all ages, etc.

That\'s not

factoring in various personal problems that could hinder the learning experience.
