When you smile do you mean it? What does it mean?

Im having this discussion with a few friends. Seems opinions

are mixed and thus no straight answer was given or was made clear.

Why would you smile at a guy? Is their a

reason behind it? Or are you doing it just to be friendly?

I asked one girl, she said she smiles only at cute

guys
Few of my friends agree with the idea the girl stated
I disagree.

So im wondering, why do you smile and

do you smile for a reason...

I think it depends on where you are, or where you\'re from. In the South, we smile at just

about everybody we see, and usually throw in a \"hey\", \"mornin\'\" or \"how are you?/how\'s it

goin\'?\". Up north, people sometimes looked at me like I had 3 heads if I smiled at everybody on the

street.

It also

depends on my mood. The happier I am, the bigger I smile, no matter whether I know the person or not.

But I

always mean it when I smile, even if it\'s to reassure the person I\'m talking to.

As an

aside, a good (male) friend of mine smiles when he\'s really mad. He doesn\'t do it on purpose, and it\'s not

even an evil sneering type of smile. Makes it hard for me to take his \'mad\' seriously though.

From the guy\'s perspective, I don\'t smile unless I really like a girl. It\'s not something

I am even cognizant of really, I just notice that every time I see her I smile at her. I\'m not good at hiding my

Aren\'t there a ton of different smiles out there? I mean the quick ones are usually

greeting ones, that everyones gets, the smiles girls give even when you\'re not looking at them are different and

are a pretty damn good smile/sign. So the normal smile coming from women is like oh wow you\'re like cute, the

long drawn out and drained smile is the, I want to ride your shaft and jam your ballon sized balls. Smiles are quick

and for the sake of conversation. I would say the other look needs a new name.

good reason SRH, It\'s very dangerous not only do we go through snow and heat, but we do not have lemonade. I look

at myself as some what of a role model to proper every day good guy (super cool teens) behavior....It was a winter

day and I saw a older man who appeared to have tipped over in his wheelchair and was laying by the curb of the road

moaning and groaning, gezz kind of loud, now that is rude!....I could have been a fool and tried to save this man

This works out because I really like a lot of girls :-)

Anyway, if I didn\'t like the girl, I\'d look to

the ground, look away, do anything in my power not to make eye contact with her.

Guys don\'t smile as often

as women. Women smile when they are happy, when they are sad, when they are nervous, when they like you, when they

are afraid of you, when you look sexy, when you look like an [censored].

There are obviously different

gradations of smiles. What I was discussing above was a sort of automatic smile, in other words, if every time I see

you I\'m smiling at you, then I\'m attracted to you.

I do exchange occasional smiles back and forth

throughout the day and I may not notice them as much as the big idiot grins I get around girls I like.

opportunity to make a new friend. And who knows, you may find that the person is actually great and something truly

special grows from a simple smile. Looks and immediate attraction are not the only things to a relationship, often

I apologize, I\'m really not making myself clear. Long night and lots of alcohol I

I\'ve been discussing women I already know and have talked to before. I thought that was what the

OP was talking about. I\'ve skimmed the thread but haven\'t been paying too much attention to it, so if the

subject changed I apologize.
I have no idea how you could know whether or not you like someone just by looking at

them and that wasn\'t my intent. I don\'t just run around smiling at hot girls. That would be kinda

creepy.

I fairly regularly have one or two \"hangers on\" type of women, who really grate on my nerves.

One of them in particular tries non-stop to cockblock me with any other girl I try to get alone with. She even

admits it to me. These girls always find a way to run up to me at the bar, etc. I\'m sure everyone knows what

I\'m talking about. You can\'t get rid of them. These are the ones I don\'t \"like\" per se, and

wouldn\'t return a smile.

And trust me, you don\'t need to lecture me on the looking past looks thing

Though, in all fairness to JDM, I have found myself acting as he

described in a couple of past situations, where there was a woman clearly \"liked\" me, but whom I felt was so

completely incompatable not only physically/appearance-wise, but, worse, intellectually, spiritually, and otherwise

(I\'m not so shallow as to deem someone unacceptable based solely on looks.) We definitely were not on the same

page.

What I\'m trying to say is that I caught myself doing what JDM described--avoiding eye contact and

open smiles, stifling my normally friendly vibe. I think that my idea at the time was I didn\'t want to give her

the wrong idea.

I also remember being morally torn. I felt like such a jerk, as, under normal circumstances,

I\'m the kind of person who will smile and be friendly to anyone and everyone...

Ideally, you want to be

secure enough as a person so as to be able to be friendly and open to one and all.
