Some good

    elements. Would smell good.

When starting out, it helps to divide into 3 parts for top, mid and bottom, as I

suggested in the beginning. Your formula is top heavy, with little bottom and almost no mid.

    Benzoin

is more of a base note, due to its extremely slow evaporation rate.

It also might be helpful to think of

the 3:2:1 ratio along with that scheme. You add up the drops in each category to get the ratio.

    Yours

would be 10:1:1 if you considered benzoin a middle note, or 10:0:2 if a base note. (See first post in thread for

relevant criterion.) Applying the 3:2:1 \"rule\" should get your perfume in shape.

    Keep in mind that something

can smell nice (like yours)without the rule, but we typically want perfumes to be balanced across the volatility

spectrum, as a \"complete smell experience\" that will develop nicely with time.

    Ok,

I\'ve made Here Smell Me and Turning Oriental so far. Everything smells yummy.

I used atlas cedarwood as a fixative instead of valerian root,

since I can\'t get valerian root right now. Both mixes are sitting through at least tomorrow and maybe until after

    Thanksgiving before my final verdict.

    Yeah,

Valerian Root has been difficult to find for some reason. I might try substituting with Patchouli for the Randy

    Pants. Will that work?

    Yes, I

would think patchouli would work fine. Does it already have patchouli in the recipe? Just make sure you don\'t

    over-patchouli it.

SRH...the black pepper addiction was a very nice idea. I

think I will add a bit more. I must be WAY overdoing my Essential oil to Jojoba. I used about 40 drops of EO to 160

drops of jojoba. After this mix I read that it should be about 2 drops of EO to every 90 drops of jojoba.

    Default Relative Strengths

    A good guide to the

relative strengths of the various EOs is found in the back of Tisserard\'s book on Aromatheraphy. That table

should give you guidence on the relative mixing proportions when making a mix.

It also has an appendix on the

relative volitility. That\'s a guide to which EOs are top notes, which are fixatives, etc.

    The part about the

astrological signs of the various EOs strains my personal

    belief.

    Hi all.

Patchouli, in relatively small quantities, is a good overall fixative. Cedar is a little weak in the base note for

overall fixation, but is a good mid/top fixative when you already have a base fixative, if that makes sense.

    You

can substitute things for valerian, but they are all just as obscure. I will go there if folks request it. To make a

long story short, Angelica root is the easiest of them to find. But I would dilute angelica in jojoba 10:1 before

    using.

It\'s fine to leave valerian out if you want. Animal notes are important, though.

<hr /></blockquote><font class=\"post\">What you were doing sounds fine, depending on whether you wanted

\"eau de perfume strength\". Weaker concentrations are good for \"eau de cologne\", body oils,

    aftershaves, etc.

I\'ve been using the Randy Pants recipe for a couple

of weeks now,and I like it a lot, particularly the valarian root version. I was surprised to get a lot of looks

from women while wearing it. But, I have to admit, plain old sandalwood is still my favourite. It\'s what I
