To dissolve resins, there are three techniques pros

    use:
    1 Use a double boiler
    2 microwave and pyrex glass,
3 a bit of Everclear grain alcohol and time,

OK, I agree w/ the grain

alcohol...but they don\'t sell that where I live, so 100 proof vodka is the alternative I have available and I

only use it to clean my \"tools\". Since I use very little of it, there\'s always plenty around for drinking.

You could get some perfumers alcohol, I suppose.

    Btw Doc, I

really like that diluent we discussed a while back...very pleased w/ that purchase. Since I haven\'t used any

resins lately, I can\'t say if it would work any better at dissolving the stuff. Any speculations?

    If you

don\'t have everclear, use 151 Rum.

    Perfuming alcohol is OK, too.

It doesn/t need to stay liquid for long,

just long enough to add to mix. The mix won\'t turn solid unless its all benzoin. If so use Etoh.

    For permanent

liquidity, use Etoh. But thickening a mix ever so slightly is a good thing benzoin does, and is one reason why its a

    fixative.

Microwave on lowest setting, briefly. Repeat if necessary.

If it\'s always solid, you can

    improvise a scooper from something.

I tried 151 and it made my stuff smell like

rum and it was pretty persistent. But I don\'t have to be concerned about that, since I found this new stuff.

Something very yummy, as all of you will find out WHEN you make the above, yummy unisex DP perfume. Men

add a drop of sandalwood to yours if you wish to tilt it. This one makes a very good cover scent for those nasty

I\'ve been using Bergamot (bergaptene-free) for citrus notes, in

lieu of citrus EOs. From what I\'ve read, citrus oils are phototoxic (I think that\'s the term), that is they

produce a photosensitivity problem when applied to the skin. Am I mistaken? Actually, I hope so because I would

love to add some citrus notes to my mixes. I\'ve also avoided cinnamon because of skin sensitivilty concerns, but

I\'d love to use it. Could I use cinnamon leaf, as opposed to cinnamon bark w/out such concerns?

    When you make

perfume blends correctly and use them correctly, there is little cause for concern with phototoxicity and citrus.

Yes, you can substitute the somewhat gentler leaf for the bark.

    Anise is

useful in many perfumes. Think of it as candy, and put it with other candy-like scents. You can add a drop to the

above DP perfume with good results. I forget -didn\'t Turning Oriental have anise? I want to minimize new formulae

until people try the ones posted, and tell me other oils they would like to use, or have bought.

    Oshadi has a

very good anise for reasonable price (for them, anyway).

Default The Ancient History of Perfume

    How

\'bout a change of pace! Remember when I said perfuming yields mystical knowledge?

    A good way to learn

about anything is to study its history. Every master learned treasured wisdom from those who preceeded him or her.

The history of a magical art like perfuming contains esoteric knowledge of the ages.

Here is an interesting link along these lines, which leads to a web

page chock full of such information, and much more. So take a hot scented bath, put some milk and honey on the

stove, don an exotic silk robe, and join our caravan of the mind. Come with me, through a friendly worm hole, to the

land of Ancient Egypt. Come on ladies! You don\'t want the worm hole to close on you! Don\'t be afraid! It

won\'t hurt a bit, it\'s just a little dark! So hold hands tight, and watch your step. Don\'t forget your tea
