Default Any Cubs fans out there?

visit-red-300x50PNG
Hey, how about

those Cubbies? I\'ve been following the Mariners from Japan for the last few years, but I was born and bred in

Chicago. What a game last night. If they win today, it will be the first postseason series win for the Cubs

since... (get ready for this) 1908. Hey, that\'s like, before I was born. Before my dad was born

actually.

OK, anybody know who Jack Brickhouse was (without making a Google search)?

Yea! That was the

first time the Chicago (my original home town) won any kind of post season series since 1908. I grew up going to

Cubs games at the same old Wrigly field, watched generations of great teams play hard and somehow fail to win

anything. The last time the Cubs won their division was the year I arrived in Japan, 1989. They got swept out of

the play offs in 3 games; very sad.

I promised my kids a party if the Cubs won. I asked them what they wanted

to do for their party... stay up late and play video games. Well, actually they said \"stay up all night and play

video games\", but on a school night they settled for late. Then I fell asleep in front of the History Channel

learning about Joseph Stalin.

Free NPA! 5 free 5ml bottles!

Free bottle of NPA to the first person to post

the correct answer to the following Cubs questions. (just answer 1 question only! If you get it correct, you get a

free bottle of NPA. If you try to answer more than 1, you get nothing, so be careful. I want to give away 5

bottles of NPA)

1. Who was the winning pitcher last night?
2. Who hit a 2 run homerun in the sixth inning last

night?
3. Who was the \"closer\" for the Cubs?
4. What was the bad call by an umpire in last night\'s

game?
5. What very famous player played first base for the Cubs in the late 60s?

If you think you have an

answer for a question that hasn\'t been answered (or you think might have been answered wrong) reply to this post

with the question number and your answer.

Remember! Only attempt 1 answer!

Good luck,
Bruce

If the Cubs

win the pennent there will be more freebies!

I\'m a red sox fan myself. Hopefully, they will win tonight. Maybe a repeat of the 1918 world

Good luck with the Athletics. Whoever wins I will be behind

you/them all the way to the pennent. I don\'t want to face the Yankees in the Series. I was hoping the Twins

would kick their butts. Now it is up to you or the As.

I\'m looking forward to playing the Marlins. I want

to see this D-train guy pitch. Should be a great match.

Thanks Bruce.

I

think the sox will win tonight. They have Pedro on the mound along with the best offense in baseball.

The Red Sox

set a major league record against the Marlins earlier this season. Most runs scored before an out was recorded. The

Marlins manager whined about how the sox humiliated them in that game.

The cubs have a really good chance of

beating the Marlins. As a matter of fact, I think they will.

I think you are

right about tonights game. Pedro is the dude. I remember him all too well against my beloved Mariners.

Gary Sheffield (used to be very angry/scary

) hit a liner to mid center and at that point Rafael Furcal ran

right when the ball was hit. Loften then went for and caught the ball (very close). The ump ruled that it was

not caught, but they replayed it on TV and it was caught by Lofton. Marcus Giles turned back to 1st cause he

thought the ball was caught. Umpires ruled Giles out. (force at second).

Thanks Bruce. It got pretty hairy at the end of that game. Lowe, did a

hell of a job to get the BoSox out of that mess. It was the second time a team has come back like that on the road.

Both times it was done by the Red Sox. This is a special Red Sox team, very average players, having career years.

I tell ya Bruce, it\'s 1918 all over again. If the outcome is the same as back then, you won\'t be

giving out any freebies after the World Series! Great for Boston fans, not so great for the L-S forum members.

From the time both teams clinched a playoff birth, the

Boston media has done nothing but endorse a Red Sox, Cubs, World Series matchup.

Brian,

Just focus

on those friggin\' Yankees, will ya? If you spend too much time hallucinating about beating the Cubs, we\'ll

end up having to play in Yankee Stadium.

Franki,

You might

want to save your money to watch any games that might potentially be series ending wins for the Cubs. Those are the

games that will generate questions for the freebies questions.

Bruce,

I see

your a little worried about those Damn Yankees! Not to worry! The

sox have beaten up on Yankee pitching all season. Their biggest problem is that their relief pitching has been

terrible. (A lot of blown saves) If the sox pitch like they did in the A\'s series, the ALCS will be no

contest.

It was a hearbreaking

loss. The Cubs are a kind of team that can\'t seem to come back from behind and win. They haven\'t managed it

in over a year, but twice they caught up to tie the score and the last time was one of the beautiful moments in

baseball I have ever seen. Bottom of the 9th inning, 2 outs, 2 runs behind, 1 man on base and Sammy Sosa comes to

the plate. He has been doing pretty bad lately, but he absolutely clobbered the ball and it went clear out of the

stadium and landed right in the middle of a crowd of Cubs fans who couldn\'t get in to the overcrowded park. They

just coudn\'t get another one though and finally the Marlins got a run and won it. Really heartbreaking.

Still

quite a few games left to play. Not to worry.

How sweet it is!
I needed that. I\'ve had the flu for a couple of days. I sat in front of a roaring

Brian\'s Red Sox beat the Yankees 5-2

too. (\"Star Wars\" game)

They beat the Yankees ace. The sox used their number 3 starter in last

nights game. Tonight will be the sox #2 starter, and Saturday, Pedro pitches. I expect the sox to lose tonight. They

don\'t do well against Petitte. Saturday, and Sunday, I expect them to light up Clemens and Wells. The two have an

era, of more than 6.00 against the sox this season. Red Sox in 6, is my bet.
