Default Browser based, disposable email accounts

visit-red-300x50PNG
Folks,
As a means of increasing security on the forum, you may have noticed users now have to register and wait to have their memberships approved before they can post. One means of making that work at all is requiring the use of a \"real\" or non-disposible email address that presumably could be traced back to its owner. *But* in order to make that stick, I have to be familiar with all the various junk email domains that can be used annonymously and discarded with no trouble. The biggies are of course Hotmail.com and Yahoo.com. After that it gets fuzzy. Can you folks help me put together a list? Just blurt them out if you know any.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce there are new ones popping up all the time. Anyone keen enough to cause trouble could find some obscure free email server somewhere. There were a heap of domains setup with the .hm (supposedly to mean \"home\" )country designator for starters. A lot of them became virtual home domains. Not to mention the \"name\" domains that sprung up and it goes on and on and on . ....lol... ignore me. Good Luck!! Thanks for the list Tallmacky. Bundy is probably right though. Going the \"real\" email route is probably a losing battle. Let\'s try something else. Here are some ideas I have been kicking around:

A. Limit forum membership to Love Scent customers. IE: Require a previous order using the same email address and/or IP address. (this would require collecting more info at registration and matching it with the order database before approval; small pain, but effective)
or
B. Make all the well-known regular users into \"moderators\" like Franki et al and then turn on the \"moderated posting\" switch so that everyone other than the moderators have to wait to get their posts approved. Moderators posts (meaning everybody but the new folks) would have their messages posted immediately. (this would be secure, but require giving moderator powers to a *lot* of folks and it could create new problems; I think there might be a way to limit the moderator powers to getting immediate posting priveliges and nothing else for some and giving others the ability to edit posts etc.)
or
C. Customize the forum so that only new users would have their posts delayed for approval. EG: Users automatically attain full member status after a certain number of posts. (this would be ideal but require major surgery to the forum software)

Any other suggestions? Comments?

{A} would be great, and it also would keep newbies from asking the same questions over and over again; IE. which is the best product.. ect. Anyone who has\'nt made a purchase yet can be rerouted to the pheromones FAQ\'s..ect and of course will be able to read previous posts from other forum members.

The clown that trashed the forum was a LS customer, wasn\'t he? So, only allowing LS cusomers to post might do little good. It also might frustrate would be customers and reduce your sales.

Although it does require major surgery, I believe that option \'C\' is going to be your best long term solution. Delaying new user posts until aproved sounds like the best mix between options.

That is true but if option (A) was activated Bruce would of had his address and caught the guy, also having all your stuff on file discourages anyone from terrorizing the forum.

It might discourage some, but not all. The really dedicated a$$holes would still do it, regardless. They know there are few repercussions.

No. The point of all this is just to be able to identify jerks who join the forum just to terrorize the place. I don\'t think anyone would mistake you for a terrorist.

C. I agree with Belgareth. It\'s the \'best\' way I can think of regardless of wether it easy to do or not. Accessable for newbies and less troublesome for established members.
