    Default A very good cologne.

A lot of people have asked me to recommend a good top-end men\'s cologne.

The one I use most often, when I\'m not using my own creations, is BelAmi, by Hermes in Paris, France. It is an archetypal, Russian leather type of perfume, with musky, woody and oriental overtones; and has been in demand steadily since the 1930\'s or so. So it is not a fad. Very masculine. It\'s not inexpensive (Almost twice what Le Male costs), but it\'s very, very good, if you like that type of scent. A bottle will last you forever, and you won\'t \"smell like a trend\".

Thank you Dr. Smell This. I am very interested in exlusive scents, whether it is Creed, L\'Artisan or Hermes.

Some people around here get so involved with the mixing and they get laid more often to. Just as long as it smeels good and you can put it on that is good.

I\'d really have to think about my top 10 over a pilgrimmage to the Perfume House (a renowned perfume shop in Portland, and the best place I know to get perfumes. Chris, the owner, is DA MANG.).

    I\'ll work on it.

    Default DrSmell\'s recommendations, cont. -- A good \"aromatherapy\" cologne.

And for those of you men who prefer to avoid all synthetics (you seem to be in the minority here, and for no good reason), and want something preformulated; I can recommend Roots, by Oshadi, which is a traditional smelling man\'s cologne made entirely of essential oils. That is a rare thing indeed in the world of aromatherapy (though not in my alchemical laboratory). It can be ordered from the website.

It\'s very basic, but classy, masculine, rich, earthy, and quite nice. I think it has significant aphrodisiac qualities just due to the oils (e.g., sandalwood). Also, since it\'s all natural, it\'s less likely to offend than top-end perfumes, all of which have synthetics in them.

I must confess I \"souped mine up\" very carefully to more suit my taste for complexity and depth. If you can get ahold of civet -- that would be good to spike it with, as would be a drop or two of citrus (esp., bergamot) or flower oils, benzoin, vanilla, frankincense, myrrh, costus, ambrette, allspice, clove, and/or cinnamon. (like a drop of each to start). If anyone buys it and wants help dressing theirs up let me know. Still, it doesn\'t need anything at all.

A bonus is that it can, coincidentally, even be mixed with BelAmi for a nice hybrid effect.
