Has anyone heard of the Athena Institute? How does it compare to products here? Thanks.

Ever since Winnifred Cutler said (on a TV talk show) that Athena 10:13 contained dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and that a pheromone for men would not work (because it\'s the men who pursue women, not vice versa) she has continued to lose credibility. She didn\'t have that much credibility to start with--as should be obvious by such statements above. From that point on, she claimed that the active ingredient in Athena 10:13 was a secret, due to patent concerns (circa 1994). Gee, it\'s taken her a long time to get a patent, hasn\'t it? I think this attests to a complete lack of evidence to support that whatever she wants to call a pheromone is patentable--or that it\'s a pheromone.

Some people may recall, however, that she published an article in Archives of Sexual Behavior a few years back, and was granted some credibility due to this publication. What most people don\'t know is that Chuck Wysocki and George Preti (who worked with Cutler at Monell) promptly responded to her publication with an extremely cutting diatribe that made Cutler look foolish.

Is Bruce going to delete this thread? Is or is OK because nobody says anything positive about athena? =P.

Has anybody here used any Athena products? Has anyone had any success if they have? With what ive read, the stuff at love scent seems to be better and at better prices, but I wouldn\'t know for sure seeing as how I haven\'t used Athena stuff.

Puppy Chan,

Believe me when I say that Athena is a waste of time and money. I bought some 10x back in December 2001, and was very diligent in following their instructions, wearing 5 days/week for 6 weeks. No results. Nada. Zip.

The only \"evidence\" they have is reference to some 6 or 8 week double-blind trial. No reference to -rone, -none, -nol, or -dienone mentioned at all. I didn\'t know what they were at the time of purchase from Athena.

Of course, I stumbled upon this site about two weeks into my Athena trial, and learned about all the different \'mones mentioned above. The moment I found this forum, I had this eerie feeling that I was out $99.50 without anything to show for it. Isn\'t life a bitch how that works?

This forum alone should be proof to anyone that products on this site work! Where else do you have a chance to chat with the creator of a pheromone product (SOE-JVKohl), and the owner of the company(Bruce)?

I personally read every single post for a little over a month before purchasing SOE earlier this week (still waiting for it). You need to take the time to evaluate all the info before making the best decision for YOU. I can guarantee that it isn\'t going to come from Athena. Good luck!

I bought the Athena 10-13 for Women and followed the instructions to the letter, like southerncal, and nothing ever happened. Absolutely nothing! I also bought the 10X for men that my husband has never opened. I just went to the Athena website looking for a money-back guarantee, and found nothing. I have e-mailed them to let them know I would like a refund on the men\'s 10X. It will be interesting to see how they respond, if at all. By the way, I mixed the Athena with one of my favorite perfumes in a small bottle, but I just recently added NPA/w to the Athena mix, so maybe it won\'t be a complete waste of money. I know the NPA works for me, so if there is anything in the 10-13, maybe it will give the NPA an extra boost.

Athena 10x for men works for me. It took six weeks of everyday use before the results kicked in. Then it was quite dramatic. I use it in Lagerfeld cologne, which someone at the institute, I think it was Dr. Cutler herself, recommended.

I found that it worked immediately. It seemed very effective, but only on some women. I got what seemed to be incredibly clear responses.

I even felt guilty to be going out with incredibly hot girls whom I thought wouldn\'t have been into me otherwise.

Or maybe I\'m just a lot more charming than I think I am?

Hmm...

Norma McCoy co-authored with Cutler the earlier study that supposedly showed effects of the Athena pheromones. George Preti and Chuck Wysocki subsequently tore the study apart. Now one of Norma\'s students has published another study (in Physiology and Behavior). Won\'t know how the data stacks up for a few weeks, but the study design is already being critisized by the top researchers in human sexuality. Sometimes these things pass peer review but fail miserably when the specialists examine the research. I suspect this will be the case, but will try to keep you all posted.

So, James can you tell us exactly what the criticisms are of Cutler\'s research? These type of behaviorial studies are completely lacking in this field, and we need some studies done. Bruce, can you fund a study? =).

A girlfriend of mine used the Athena formula for women about three years ago. She said it worked a little but that it was wildly expensive and you only get tiny bit for the money. She said it didn\'t compare to the newer phero products available these days. I\'m new here snd just learning about man-made phero products. I have always relied on my own natural pheromones (based on my knowing my own body), but would like to experiment. The variety and prices here are much more encouraging, not to mention the free advice from forum members.

Justine,

Welcome. As you can tell, we are a little heavy on the guys. We should have a \"ladies\' day\" or something.

Cheers,

Bruce,
Don\'t trip about me feeling isolated or anything around here. As inexperienced as I am, and as a female (with so many males online), I am cool here anyway, and lucky to learn the science from a male\'s point of view. I have gotten along fine with the forum members, and everyone has been so helpful. I am learning a lot from those who post on your forum, and I hope I am adding a little something as well (my life experienced as an unshaven female, my personal \"relaxed\" hygiene habits and my lifelong rejection of scents and body hair shaving seem to be so radically different from the norm). Maybe my attitude, bathing habits, unshaven/untrimmed armpits/legs/pubic region, meatless diet, drinking a lot of water, lack of scented soap and deodorant/scent-masking products, honoring my abundant (blonde) body hair will help females (and even men who rely on anti-perspirants, deodorant soaps and strong colognes) gain more from your excellent pheromone products and by relaxing all of the compulsive bathing, deodorizing, hair removal and masking. All it takes is a quick rinse when you\'re sweaty or needing a shower, and to refrain from oppositional products (deodorant, antibacterial products, scented products and strong soaps) and add only true phero products to enhance, but never erace or cover up your natural scent, which was designed to attract the opposite sex by virtue of the strong pheromonal attractants that are based on just the right amount of body odor and hair. Forget the rest....a waste of money that gets in the way of what you really want......a natural (phero-enhanced) response to your natural attractant factors that are available to all of you every single day, which many of you insist on washing away, shaving away and masking. Purchase the only body products you will ever need right here on this website. Stop the commercial deodorant, antiperspirant, scented and deodorant soaps, anti-bacterial products and commercial colognes. I haven\'t given the folks who make underarm deodorants and shaving products any cash since I was 15 or 16 and I have learned to love, co-exist and enhance my natural scent and my unshaven blonde body hair by adhering to a healthy lifestyle and by altering radical Western bathing/scent-masking habits. Am I crazy, or am I on to something???
