Anyone ever heard

If you should ever be forced by a

robber to withdraw

money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by

entering your Pin #

in reverse.

1234 then you would

put in 4321.

The ATM recognizes that your pin

number is backwards

I've never heard of it but

it sounds like a damn good idea to me. I was nearly robbed at gunpoint in Tampa once, got lucky due to an evasive

driving course I had taken. But, the two guys that tried to rob me had just got done robbing this young kid who

they grabbed at a phone booth and then took to an ATM where they made him empty out his account and also beat the

crap out of him.

This idea/suggestion has been going

around for quite some time, but I understand it has never been implimented anywhere. Software problems are part of

the deal.

I have heard that there are some security systems out there that use number pad passwords that have a

provision for what is called a "duress code." Not sure if that really exists either. It's a password code that can

be entered that will work to gain access to an area, although there may be purposeful delays also built in, that

notify security personel as well.

I have also been in a situation that involved a defective card reader at a

local department store. After three failed attempts to get my frickin debit card to work it locked it out and I had

to contact the issuing bank to have it "reset." Perhaps in a robbery situation one could purposefully enter the

wrong PIN code (I can't always remember mine when I'm NOT under pressure) enough times to have the card locked

out. Of course the perps with the knife at your back may not be amused and take their anger out on your person...

Yeah, that idea could be

dangerous, criminals can be mean SOBs especially when you delay/thwart them. I was behind some old guy at my

bank's outdoor atm and he was taking forever till the card was finally just eaten. I asked him what happened and

he told me he had just found the card on the ground and was trying some numbers. I told him off but he was really

very old so I let it go.

in the making, but not real.
