Obviously, there has been a great deal of debate here on the topic,
between those who in effect proclaimed the VNO is a dead topic, and those who felt all the evidence wasn't in, or
that its existence made general theoretical sense, at least from a natural selection point of view. This is
certainly another chapter in that story, even though we still don't know how it will turn out, as in all
science.
It is also interesting that a marine mammal provided a clue. I've long suspected that, in some
respects, humans shared more sexual biology and behavior with marine mammals than land mammals (e.g., the role
of senses and processes other than olfaction). Perhaps that will be an area of research that will prove fruitful.
Though I've commented on this in the past, some day I'll post something more extensive on it.
