    Default Colognes

    visit-red-300x50PNG
I want to try a mix of just

using NPA with a regular cologne (no -mones). The problem is there is a HUGE variety of them out there and i have

never wore cologne before. I was wondering if anyone would like to share some of their opinions. I go to a crowded

school so im looking for something light and subtle and not too strong. So far i have Cool Water and Burberry

    Weekend in mind.

My fav is Weekend. Women love

it--especially younger ones--I like it, covers well and lasts longer than most summer/citrus scents. Issey Miyake is

a little more formal but still light but more floral than citrus--also one of my favs.

Acqua Di Gio, Curve, and Cool

Water Deep are my favorites. Strength varies from one cologne to another and can be stronger on one person than

another. I have to spray half the bottle of acqua di gio on me to make it last longer than 10 minutes. While 2

sprays of Curve is almost too strong.

Gucci Envy has been appearing a lot on this board lately ... may have to test-sniff it.

    What's your thought

(anyone's elses thoughts that has sniffed Gucci's Envy) as compared to some other top known scents, DCW, i.e.,

Aqua di Gio, Cool Water, BB Weekend?

    Thanks!
Never argue with ignorant people! They pull you down to THEIR level, and then they BEAT YOU with experience. Who said that!? I don't know, but tis gold I tell'ya!!

You'll probably get 100 different answers from 100

different guys. My favorite right now is Torio Lamborgini Chrome. A light scent I like a lot is Bulgari Por Homme.

The best thing to do is find a department store with a cologne counter and sample some of the products. If you're

lucky enough to live near a Sephora, there are many testers on display to choose from in those places. But even

places like Sears and J.C. Penneys have cologne counters and I suspect, samples of selected scents.

    BTW,

Sephora keeps lots of sample scents in small vials under the counter. You have to ask for them, but they're free. I

always make a purchase when asking for them though.

It had a good scent I think, but it was real strong.

Although I personally wouldnt wear it. I'm 25 years old, and it smells more like an older guy's cologne. Like

maybe mid 30s to mid 40s. Just didnt appeal to my age.

Fact is it's nearly impossible to

recommend a cologne for someone else. You are probably just going ot have to go out and try to find testers or small

sampler bottles. Or check out some of the dedicated cologne seller's websites where you can sometimes get free or

discounted sampler packs and just give each a try.

I finally found a Perfumania within driving distance of me

and tried out some of the colognes I've seen here. Many of the ones raved about by others I just plain don't like.

Probably be the same for you. Gotta try em yourself.

Plus according to many of the women I've spoken to on the

subject, they really don't seem to care about what you wear as long as they don't gag when they smell you.

Personally I think many colognes are just plain overrated.

One I know I *do* like and is a rare one indeed is

Dr. Smell This's Pheros, sold only at Love-Scent.

    Default I love Colonges

    I use cool

water with my mixes because it blends good from what I have read. Plus the smell fades really quickly and I can wear

whatever other cologne I want later or as a cover up even over my JB1. Essentially I just use it to dilute to avoid

    OD's

If I was going to buy one right now like you are, I would probably go with cool water frozen even fresher

than original, burberry weekend (Gegogi's one) it's good,
Egosite Channel great, Polo Black awesome but

expensive, Angel is may obsolute number one on the wish list and the most expensive 100$.
    Ralph L. Romance is good

but not for everyday, Kenneth Cole Black is good, Dolce and Gabbanna different and good but it's a bit more

serious, one that people that show colognes really like is Sean John Unforgivable. I got to say it really blew me

away but I just don't know about wearing something by Puffy, Ultravioletman is so good to by Paco Rabanne. Allure

    Sport, excellent.

If I had to go with one Issey Mikaye or one of the Blacks, but since I have a few I would get

Angel. I just have cologne for close to a lifetime it feel like
    I was having nervous breakdowns.

    Another idea is

look for "decants" on eBay. Decants are when a person sells a small sample of a cologne from a larger bottle. I just

bought a 1/4 oz atomizer of creed's Green Irish Tweed for $9.95 and 1/4 oz 0f their Himalaya for $12.50 from a

vendor there. Sure beats forking out the $100+ that a full bottle of those colognes sell for when you're not sure

    if you'll like the scent.

I've also bought small sample vials from cologne vendors online, such as I

mentioned are free from Sephora, which is how I first tried the two Creed products.

The best way to pick a cologne

is to spray 1 of the samples from the store on each wrist and ask random women which smells best. Repeat on

different days with different colognes until you are satisfied.

The Creed colognes mentioned above. Green Irish Tweed retails between $150 - $170 for a 4 oz

bottle and Himalaya between $178 - $200 for 4oz, though they can be found for under $100 online. A .04oz sample of

Tweed runs $4.00 at one place I checked. At that price, it would have cost me $25 for my 1/4 oz decant from

    eBay.

Other than that, everything else I have bought has been around $35 - $60 a bottle.

    I think the

guys here who are into oud or aloeswood, which I haven't tried yet, probably top the list for the most expensive

    scent.

Probably true. A tola is 12 Grams and of mid-range Oud can sell for $140 to $400.

Higher end Oud can sell for well over $2500 for a tola.

YOu may want to head over here -

    www.basenotes.net

Many knowledgable people will help you out. Just expect

to get some not so mainstream recomendations.

There's also a great directory with almsot every cologne known,

    descriptions and reviews.

I personally like to avoid all the most popular scents. To me, just like any form of

art (and I do consider fragrences an art), the most popular are usually the most mundane and bland. Plus, I don't

look like everyone else, why would I want to smell like everyone else?

There are many scents out there for all

ages, that make a little bit of a statement, but without announcing your presence minutes before you arrive.

I was in a store last week

trying different brands, I mentioned to the lady at the counter that I often wear different brands on a weekly or

daily basis depending on my mood.
She told me that I should limit my selections to two, one for the day and the

    other possibly for night.

She said that your cologne acts as your signature and that others often associate

    you with a particular fragrance.
I thought that was interesting, rather than trying to find that magic fragrance

I’m going to wear Gucci Envy and maybe one of my Creed fragrances for clubbing.

    She's dead-on about that.

Fragrance becomes a part of your outward personality, of

    your personal aura.

I know that when I catch a whiff of a certain cologne or perfume, invariably it makes me

think of someone I've associated it with - even if I haven't seen 'em in years.

    When you've found a

signature scent, it shouldn't be changed up that much.
