CO2 is an extraction method using gas under pressure to extract the oil, rather than distillation.
The resulting chemical (scent) compounds are different, apparently because of the lack of heat....
azz, your comparison to Encre
Noir is spot-on. Oud is not nearly as floral, and EN has that dark, dusky richness after it dries a bit.
Oud is
still more amazing, just on its own.
Now...
The first time I tried Oud I
fell in love with it, and as I wore it more I began to dislike some aspects of the scent. I tried different
varieties and began to experiment, and only then did...
I agree with Bel on all counts,
and not just 'cause its his birthday.
The darker ouds are probably distilled from older/rarer raw materials.
They usually start much heavier and evolve...
I was on ham firl's website
today and noticed a pretty good jump in prices, which for me means slacking off the use of the pure ouds.
Agree
that his oud attars are pretty good, for what...
The Burmese is lighter and
sweeter than the Royal Oud, which was quite a bit more expensive when I bought them months ago.
His Royal Oud is
more complex, heavier and more what I think you...
Or you could just use Pheros, you won't be sorry. Warm and spicy, with a
nice musk drydown, great for covering. Do a search for it on this forum for lots of feedback.
Glad its working well for you. Those oils are definitely tenacious. I layer them
with each other and with pheromones with good success. I use the sandal on its own sometimes for my daily...
I didn't know that about deer musk, and having just now
smelled it I notice a sandalwood scent, it adds a sweetness I think, but isn't real musk a little sweet?. The musk
is loud and clear...
I understand about the ambergris
blending, it must be mixed with something to carry the raw ingredient. My only complaint is that it is mixed with
something that has a scent of its own, and...
I've bought some really nice
oils from Ham Firl, and his Ambergris and Civet are cheaper, but diluted and/or mixed. The Civet is mixed with Oud,
the Ambergris oil is an unknown blend.
Good
description! Mix civet with oud (Ham Firl's) and you can add dirty horse stall. But mix it up VERY judiciously
with other, more palatable scents, and wow.
Interesting
links:
Civet is a favorite scent for perfumers for its fixative and animalic qualities. You would
not wear it on its own. Blended skillfully with other scents it gives a raw, earthy, lusty, sexy,...
Just got this email from Ham
Firl, I think its hilarious. Still, my curiosity is going to cost me US$15.
"We also have Civet cat pure oil
mixed with Cambodian OUD. We are doing for US$15...
Terry, seeing that picture I had
to laugh. A friend of mine has a saying when he thinks something is too expensive: "I wouldn't pay that to watch
Cleopatra take a bath in goat's milk". Too...
Didn't know this about sesame paste, aka Tahini among my Lebanese
friends. They sometimes put it in hummus. Now I know why I like it so much.
Have to try some of Ham Firl's
honey mixed...
I got his 100% CO2 Wild
Mysore. I like it a lot, and it seems fresher, greener than the other Sandals I have. I've been reading that CO2
extracts have a different effect on the resulting...
Ha! You're very
generous with MY money CAt! Too rich for me, and I've already spent too much on EOs at this point. I've gotten
hooked there too, sigh...
The layering has taken on a life...
Thanks CAt, thought I'd rather look at two of my
favorite things while I'm here.
I may be interested in a trade, but need to experiment more. I'll let you
know.
CAt, does Oriscent blend their ouds? I know Ham Firl does not, and sells the pure oil from
whatever country. It'd be interesting to know about Oriscent's practices.
BTW, did you get an email...
Had a similar experience this
past weekend. Covered mones with oud and the unique scent opened the door. She loved it.
I used the Vietnamese
oud from Ham Firl. Much lighter and sweeter...
I've
been experimenting with ouds the last couple of days. I think Ham Firl's Royal Oud is very similar to Oriscent's
Assam. These are the only ones I've tried to this point, and are the...
