View Full Version : Recommend Me a New Cover Scent

Been digging through the posts here a lot deeper than I ever did before. That\'s one reason I decided

to finally register, I\'ve found it interesting, educational, and entertaining. There was one thread about

colognes that caught my eye, especially how the women here raved over three specific ones, Le Male, Angel, and

Victoria\'s Secret Very Sexy for Men.

I wrote in my first post at this forum that I was a big fan of Realm and

have been using it for several years now. After reading the thread on the colognes and seeing the raves of the three

mentioned above, I\'ve been thinking of getting one or two of them on my next trip to the big city in

May.

Before Realm, I was an English Leather kind of guy. I still like to use their stick deodorant. But for about

the last ten years, if I wore cologne at all, it has been Realm. Well, I would sometimes use Andros (billed as a

cologne), which I mentioned in my first post, but pretty much gave it up after the experience with the pickpocket.

Besides, there are so many better pheromone products to choose from here. (Not to mention the knowledge base.) I

like Realm a lot, but am thinking of adding some variety to my mix, especially something that doesn\'t already

contain pheromones.

Anyway, here\'s a bit of a physical description of myself. I\'m 44 years old,

5\'9\'\', brown hair, blue or hazel eyes (people tell me blue but the birth certificate says hazel). I wear

glasses, have a full (but trimmed) beard and could stand to lose a few pounds (working on it). Kind of the \"teddy

bear\" type of guy.

My question is, of the three colognes, Angel, Le Male, or VS Sexy for Men, what is the most

recommended. Are they appropriate scents for someone my age? Would they appeal to women say around 35 to 45 years

old? Or are they for a younger crowd?

Now I wouldn\'t make a purchase like this blind, and I have a couple of

months yet before I can hit the big department stores or Victoria\'s Secrets in San Diego. Do these types of

places have small samples of their product, besides an in-store application, so one can give it a try without

forking out $80 for a full bottle?

And finally, are all three of these fragrances recommended only for evening

wear or can any of them be used in the daytime too?

What about

APC? A lot of people here have raved about Amouage to.
You may find online shops that do discounted stuff and

maybe even smaller bottles so you don´t have to pay that much to check them out? Or ask for samples at a store, can

be tricky but if the people theree are nice you might be lucky

Angel

& Le Male are similar. Le Male too light and not good with pheros IMO. I have Rochas Man which is similar to

both and has a better scent IMO. My favorite wth pheros is chrome. If you can afford Creed Himalaya I\'d try it

out if I were you. Many like Gucci Envy too. Amouage Dia/Gold seems to be popular too but very pricy I expected hit

successes with it but have not read too many.

le male

is too light??! Its a very strong scent IMHO!

Le

Male. light as in less masculine scent.

Between Le Male, Angel, and VS, I\'d recommend VS. Angel and Le Male aren\'t anywhere near as versatile as VS.

Stop by a VS to try the scent though. I like it, but it may not be deep enough for your tastes, imagining what

English Leather must smell like.

If you\'re looking to try lots ot scents or want to buy a few on the cheap,

give Ebay a whirl. I\'ve bought several through it and have always come away happy.

Jackpot!

Just found a german site, where you can order 6 samples of Amouage for 6 EUR!! They have

other expensive colognes and Eau dé Toiletes as well, but I\'m really only used to more \"earthly\" scents, like

Bruno Banani (Not for Everybody) or other reasonably priced ones... ;-)

Well, I will report back whether I think

it\'s worth buying a whole bottle for 150€ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hmm, I think they don\'t ship outside of germany, it says: Shipping prices to other parts of the

world on demand. So I guess they won\'t do it for 6EUR...

Can

you get more than one of the same kind of sample? For example, two Dias?

thingscouldwork

They have either 2 or 4 different ones for men (2 marked unisex). I asked them nicely to either send

all different ones for free, or charge 6 EUR to my account and send 6 small vials.

So I don\'t really know

\"what I\'m in for\" yet... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No. The effect of the \'mones is still going to be there regardless of the cover scent.

Less is more is as applicable to pheromones as it is to colognes and perfumes. Not only do you \"personalize\"

yourself scent wise instead of creating a pheromone cloud that others might benefit from instead of yourself, you

remove the possibility of the negative side effects (aggression, distancing, etc.) associated with OD\'ing on

\'mones. Subtlety is the key. Don\'t be a walking ball of stink with either \'mones or colognes. The human

sense of smell is more powerful than one initially thinks.

I just got my Amouage Samples!

Silver and Gold... Edt and Cologne of each...

Just tried a spray

of Silver Edt. Results so far:

\"Interesting\", I\'m not really blown away actually, but that will most

likely get better as it fades a bit... Really sweet, almost animal-musk-smelling-like...

Howdy,

a newbie here. One of my favorite scents is New West. It smells great. As a matter of fact, my ex used to call it

\"sure f--k\". Women love the smell of it. As for getting the colognes you are looking for, there are a bunch of

web sites that sell cologne. just type perfume in the search window and go. One that I liked is fragrancenet.com

I just tried Gold EdT as opposed to Silver EdT

yesterday:

I actually like it better than silver and to my (untrained-amateur)nose it does smell similar to some

extent...

It is DAMN heavy, though... Just like I had read beforehand...

A friend of mine works in a

yet...

I hope that it\'s a bit lighter!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

New

West is an UNBELIEVABLE scent. Unfortunately, it was discontinued, but is apparently available now in a small-run

batch, though it\'ll cost ya. I\'d imagine you can find something about it over at

basenotes.com (\"http://www.basenotes.com\")

Well, I went to Dillard\'s today, about our highest class department store, to test some colognes

today. They didn\'t have Angel or Le Male. Out of six sample cards, I walked away with four, Ralph Lauren Blue and

Silver, and Armani Mania and Emporio. I\'ve narrowed it down from those to two, The Emporio and the Ralph Lauren

Silver. Think I\'ll go back tomorrow and get a spray of one on each arm, but right now I\'m leaning towards the

Silver.

A search here brought up little information about Silver, but I guess it is fairly new. I\'d like to

hear others\' opinions on this cologne, especially from the women.

Actually, I\'m looking for something that

everyone else won\'t be wearing, so I\'m kind of glad it\'s too new for much opinion to be written on it.

Still want to try the Very Sexy for Men, but will have to wait until I get to a real city to go to a Victoria\'s

Secret.

BTW, I was wondering if I should have on pheromones when I try the spray tomorrow to see ehat it\'s

like, or to go in there clean?

oscar

IP,

I\'d go in clean for the sampling session. You don\'t want to skew your reactions to the fragrances any

more than you have to. And if you can keep it to just one scent per visit you\'ll get a much better notion of how

the stuff wears on you over time.

Basenotes has several reviews on the RL Silver and they\'re all good:

http://www.basenotes.net/ID26123298.html (\"http://www.basenotes.net/ID26123298.html\")

The fact

that the Silver is fairly new means that basenotes doesn\'t have their usual \"fragrance notes pyramid\" on

there yet, but the other scents you mentioned will probably be described in more

detail.

Decided on the Silver for now. It dried down to sort of a cedar smell on me, while the Emporio smelled

too much like English Leather. Couldn\'t bring myself to pay something around $50 for a cologne that smells like

something I already have and is cheaper. Besides, I was leaning towards the Silver to begin with.

Will try the

Emporio again, maybe compare it with the Mania. Been wanting something Armani and the suits, even at Saks off Fifth,

cost more than I want to pay. There is no opportunity to wear something like that in this town. It\'s a casual

desert town where most people wear shorts year round. So I figured I could settle on an Armani cologne for the time

being.

As it is though, I probably won\'t buy anymore fragrances until my vacation in May. Can hit the ritzy

department stores then.

I\'m curious as to whether anyone likes Aramis, as I sort of do. I recognize the smell of some perfuming

pheromones in ther fairly strongly, plus it is a true wood smell. Very masculine.

A very cool cologne selector (\"http://www.fragrancesoftheworld.com/\") can be found on

Michael Edwards website. It is pretty cool, you just click on one cologne that you like, and 3 more selections will

be suggested. There is one cologne that a friend of mine used to wear in college, but I never got the name of it. I

always wanted to know so I could get it, but I did not want to ask. I have smelt it 2 times since, and still never

asked those guys. Has anyone ever had this experience? I really like this cologne, I just think its weird to ask

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

InternationalPlayboy

I\'ve had that experience with both guys and gals. I\'ve never asked a guy whose cologne I liked

what it was because I thought that might come across as \"gay.\"

And there was a perfume popular in the 90s

that I can\'t stand. I still smell it once in awhile on a woman. I think it might be a rose scent, but to me it

smells like Raid. It really messes up my sinuses and leaves a lingering vapor trail. A girl at work wore it

occasionally and I remember someone commenting they thought they smelled insecticide upon entering a room she had

just been in. I was glad I wasn\'t the only one who associated the smell with bug spray.

I hate the scent the

most when I smell it in a restaurant. I have never asked anyone what it was as I didn\'t want to tell them the

truth about what I thought of it nor did I want to make them think I liked it, thus encouraging them to wear it

more. Luckily, no one close to me has ever worn it. I remember hearing second hand that the woman at work said it

was a very expensive perfume.

Funny, I was just thinking this afternoon of a girl in junior high who I sat

behind in one class. This was around 1973. She had a smell to her that was quite unique. I don\'t know if it was

shampoo or perfume or what, but I sure liked it. Wish I knew what it was. I sometimes catch whiffs of something very

similar around Mexican resturants, but this was more of a perfumy smell than a food smell and the girl wasn\'t

Mexican. The Musk oil that Bruce gives away in special deals smells close but isn\'t quite it either.
