View Full Version : Jury Duty Summons...

I recived a

summons a few weeks ago for jury duty. I have to appear at the court house on the 10th of this month. I don\'t

want to be a part of the jury. So I stated my request to be excused on the form I had to mail back. But I have not

got a response back saying I\'ve been excused. So I was just wondering if any one know\'s a way I can get out of

it?

I\'ve searched the internet but most excuses were stupid or more jokes that anything else. In a way I think

it would be interesting to be a jury and help to make a fair judgement and be a part of the legal system.. But I

really can\'t afford to miss work right now and I have to many problems of my own to worry about. Without having

to deal with someone else\'s.

I also don\'t think it\'s right that the court can threaten to put you in

jail or fined if you don\'t appear for jury duty. Also the 13th Amendment of the constitution clearly state\'s

that no one can be forced into slavery or involuntary servitude within the United States. But it happens.

Also

this is the excuse I wrote on the form I had to fill out.

Reason you\'re asking to be excused.

I cannot

afford to miss work right now. I have to many bills to pay and $12.50 a day just want do it. I also have a very low

opinion of the legal system and local law enforcement.

You can ask anyone in my town and they will say the same

about the local law enforcment. I live in a very small town. And the local law enforcement can\'t even leave the

city limits. So if a crime is committed you would have to call the state police for help. So what\'s the purpose

of having them. Everyone know\'s if they want to commit a crime they can do it outside the city limits and get

away before the state police can get there.

I have thought about writing a letter to the chief judge asking to be

excused to make sure they know I don\'t want to be a part of it.

What\'s your opinions about all this? Any

advise would be appreciated.

Jury Duty is a

royal pain-in-the-ass. Especially if you get on a murder trial. (Trust me.)

The Chief Judge doesn\'t give two

sh*ts whether or not you want to do it.

Just tell them that you\'d make a GREAT juror because you can

spot guilty people just like that.

You gotta do what

you gotta do. I don\'t think many people like to do jury duty, but I do think that if any of us got into

trouble we would want to be able to have a fair jury of our peers.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

In L.A., they

don\'t care whether one is self-emplyed or not. One guy got picked, even though he had booked a cruise, and had a

departure date (but, the judge DID get HIS vacation).

When I got voir dired for a three day trial, I tried to

get picked. Because if I didn\'t, the courts could have me come down for up to three business weeks to NOT get

picked. Thus, I was only out five days (one voir dire, three for trial, one for deliberations).

I also managed

to get myself chosen for foreperson. So, the discussion stayed on track, because I am good at managing meetings.

The last time, I got lucky-- I got selected for Pasadena, NOT L.A. I had to call in for five days, and was not

selected. Also, Pasadena has a \"one day or one trial\" rule (unlike L.A.) If one gets called to come in, and is

not chosen for trial that day, one goes home.

Sometimes, the courts here channel some prospective jurors over to

traffic court. Most of those are lucky-- a lot of those trials are one-dayers.

I plan on

calling or writing them them and telling them my situation. If that doesn\'t work. I\'ll show up dressed really

bad and dirty. Or make a t-shirt that say\'s, Hang\'em, Shoot\'em, Kill\'em, Problem Solved.. I\'ll find a

way to get out of it.

My employer doesn\'t have to pay me my wages. I asked about it and they said I would be

excused from work but wouldn\'t get paid. There\'s no law here that say\'s an employer has to pay an employee

thier wages if there on jury duty.

Thanks for your reply\'s.

This is the letter I wrote asking to be excused from jury duty. I would appreciate it if you all would read it and

let me know what you think about it and if I should change anything.

To whoever’s in charge of jury

selection,

I received my jury summons a few weeks ago and mailed it back. On the form I stated my reasons for

wanting to be excused from jury duty. But I have not received a letter or call saying if I’ve been excused or not.

So I am writing you to ask to be excused from jury duty for the following reason.

Because I cannot financially

afford to miss work right now. I am behind a month on a few bills and I’ve been trying to get as many hours at work

as I can to get my bills caught back up. Thankfully my boss is trying to give me as many hours as she can right now.

So hopefully I can get them paid and they will stop calling me every day asking for their money. I don’t make very

much so it’s been hard on me lately. And I really don’t want to miss any work and get further in debt if I can help

it.

On the form I also stated I had a very low opinion of the legal system and local law enforcement. I‘m sure

you‘re wondering why. So I‘ll explain. It seems the people who commit real bad crimes don’t get what they deserve

and someone who hasn’t don’t anything real serious get’s in more trouble. This is not always the case but it happens

more than it should.

I know a couple of the city cops and think their good guys and do their job right. But at

the same time it doesn’t really do any good. The reason I say this is because I have heard them talk about how the

can arrest someone and before they can even get their paper work done. They’re already out of jail. So what good is

it really doing? There’s a lot of drugs going around and not much being done about it. One reason I think this is,

Is because there’s not enough police officers here. I know Leslie County is small compared to other places in the

state. But I think there should be more done to stop drug dealer’s here. Almost every one knows the local cops can’t

leave the city limits. So if they want to commit a crime or sell drugs they do it out side city limits. Were they

know they have a good chance of not getting caught. Because they’re not enough police officers that can go out of

the city limit’s to watch for that kind of activity.

They’re may be more being done than I know about. But

that’s how it looks to me and a lot of people I’ve talked to. I’ve lived here all my life and I love it better than

any place I’ve been but if something isn’t done soon I’m afraid Leslie County is going to be like other places were

there’s drug dealer’s every were you look. It seems every year there’s more and more dangerous drugs here. I’m sure

you’re doing what you can with what you got. But hopefully sooner or later they’re be more resources to stop the

drug activity here.

I hope that has explained my situation and why I have a low opinion of the legal system. I

would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know. By either writing or calling me and letting me know if I’ve

been excused from jury duty or not.

Thank you for your time,

Gossamer_2701

Hey Roller.... that is quite a fine letter ya got there, but unfortunately it won\'t make any

difference. They get way to many excuses every day, be it by phone, letter, or in person.... people just like you

that either can\'t afford to take time off, or people who just don\'t believe in our leagal system.

As a

rule.... they do not except those kind of \'excuses\' and you will have to show up... and let the powers that be

either select you or not. There are valid reasons for being excused from jury duty (age, sickness) but financial or

political aren\'t among them.

I do wish you good luck though....

Holmes

A

gallant effort, but it won\'t do dick. Jury Duty, like LA or King Kong Bundy, is bigger than all of us.

When

they\'re taking attendance and they call out your name, just say \"Guilty!\" That actually might

work.

I think holmes has a method.

You could also use the \"Ted Nugent gets out of the draft method\". He ate

only junk food for a couple weeks, stopped bathing or changing clothes, and crapped his pants before showing up.

They called him a disgusting pig and threw him out on the street. Ted, as most of you know, is my idol.

I have decided not to send the letter. Mainly because I don\'t no the correct address to send it to. So I\'ll

A lot of people

don\'t want to be on a jury, you have to make them think you shouldn\'t be on the jury.

DrSmellThis

Yeah, like if you\'re an air traffic controller and no one will take your place, or an ER doctor, or

if starving children depend on your being there, or someone you\'re a caretaker for might die, or you\'re

severely agoraphobic, or you have a disability that only lets you work 1 hour/day, or if you have a highly

contagious illness, or you had a death in the family, or if you will lose $10,000 if you show up, or you are not a

citizen, or if you show up at an ER and say you\'re suicidal -- these are the kinds of reasons they might accept.

\"I don\'t want to\" is completely irrelevant.

Just do your job as an American. We are so lucky we have jury

married women. Take a trip over to the Middle East and then you would be standing in line begging to serve.
