Ettiquete...
I am meeting a girl for the first time tonight at a rock show.
Do I hug when we

meet?
Shake hands?
???

Elana

Grab a boob and then shove your tongue down her throat. We dig that.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Don\'t shake her hand. Maybe lean in and give her a kiss on

the cheek. I think that is the most appropriate greeting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

do both hug and a peck on the cheek. Nothing wet and sloppy though.

Sexyredhead

No, don\'t hug her when you first meet. I\'d hug my friends, but not new people. A peck on

the cheek is something you can lean in, do, and back out. A hug needs her to participate to really come off well, or

you end up looking dumb if she just stands there.

Yeah, better to just take her hand (palm upwards, finger contact only) and lean in for a quick cheek

kiss.

Shake her hand. It´s neutral, not too personal and you can´t go wrong with it

I don\'t like that one

unless it is a business setting. If I was meeting a guy for a date I would be a bit put off if he shook my hand. It

just seems so manly.

Sexyredhead
02-22-2004, 06:12 AM
I may be mistaken, and I\'m sure someone will correct me if I am, but shaking hands with

everybody even on a casual level seems more common in places like Germany than many places in the US.

dolly

I, for one, would also be put off by a man shaking my hand on a first date. I like the idea of taking

my hand and leaning in for a quick kiss on the cheek, though. But, then again, I am one female who would not be

offended by a hug, either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

No... no...no... Ya gotta go for the ultra-manly handshake/half-hug combo

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

But seriously.... I agree with ssssssst (see Elana, 7

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) gently take her hand in yours and lean in for a quick peck on the

cheek.... but don\'t hesitate, you\'ll look like a nervous idiot

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Its gotta be smooth.

CJ01

It depends on the relationship he has with this particular woman. Shaking hands is done basically

around the world, even americans do it when they meet a woman. Not a `manly´thing at all, not in Europe

anyway.
Plus, there´s several ways to shake hands with someone

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

CC maybe it would be more helpful to us if you gave us some

info on the girl and what type of relationship you have with her already

That\'s different from just a hug, and it\'s a good one, Goss.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Take her hand, fingers down, put your other hand on her shoulder

and lean in for a peck. Very smooth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As a man, nothing says \"I love you\" so platonically to another man

like the \"pat\"... \"I\'m not really hugging you, I\'m shaking your hand and patting you on the

back...\"

Although for female encounters, you usually come in for the full hug and insert the \"pat\" just to

show it\'s friendly.

I actually wrote a Seinfeldesque conversation regarding the subject:

--So, you two are

getting a little close, huh?
--What do you mean?
--Well, you just hugged her.
--Yeah, but I gave her the

pat.
--The pat?
--Yeah, I gave her a pat on the back, so I wasn\'t really hugging her...
--What\'s the

difference?
--Well, if you hug someone, that\'s one thing. But if you give them the pat, you aren\'t hugging

them anymore, you\'re reaching over them to give them a pat on the back.
--I don\'t get it. It\'s still a

hug.
--But you gave them the pat...
--Ahhh, whatever.

While we\'re on the subject, you can tell a lot about

your relationship with someone on the basis of your hugs. If you get the \"lean\", which is when you lean forward

to hug a person so you can get your arms around them without having your chests touch or privates be anywhere in the

vicinity of each other, you know you\'re f*cked (in the bad sense).

You know, the usual: interviewing, going to my alma mater, supporting my fraternity friends in

THON (www.THON.org), the largest student-run philanthropy in the world (48 hours: no sitting, no

sleeping, no kidding), watching my ex hug and kiss her bf a hundred times even though all of her friends think he is

an [censored] (it was at THON, so I couldn\'t avoid it), puking numerous times after witnessing such acts (J/K),

landing a job, and about to search for a place to live for when I move to the D.C. area...

Oh, but you were just

wondering why I haven\'t posted...I just didn\'t have time to use a computer for anything other than e-mail

while I was away. Sorry. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Nice post!

Completely without realising, I do exactly that! If I want

to make sure a relationship stays plutonic I do the pat, and I never even realised I was doing it!

I have also

noticed the \"lean\", can be death to a man\'s chances.
