I think he was reading Harry Potter during one of his trips. I think he deserved it for being an addict of LSD and Potter.

Elana,

That\'s gotta be the best argument I\'ve EVER heard for saying \"NO\" to drugs.
I\'d like to know what it was that he took, just to make sure I never try any!

Actually, I don\'t think he\'ll be passing any mayo for some time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Reminds me a of a certain artist (painter) who cut off his ear once a long time ago and did self-portraits of it and became very famous - but only after he was long dead /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

And you know the saying goes it was that good old green stuff called Absinth...

Could this have been it, what do you guys reckon ??????
CJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
`( poor dude - he´s got no dick anymore ?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif?!?! )

CJ,

Probably not Absinthe. I drink it and have never had the urge to sever any body parts (much less EAT them!)

Remember, Vincent was also given to eating his paints and drinking turpentine for a buzz.

Funny though, how chemically similar turpentine and Absinthe are. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

But I\'ve always believed that it was \"la femme\" who made Vincent FAR more crazy than ANY of the things he ingested.

oscar, I´m glad to hear this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks though, typical to blame it on a woman yeah... But why do you reckon it was a girl?

Hey, have you tried absinthe and oilpaint or turps together? I can´t imagine that taste at all myself.
Mind you all those things are just rumours anyhow... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CJ,

from the recently discovered, but as yet unpublished autobiography (translated):

\"...She is a prostitute, but I love her so much, that I hope that as she opens the little packet she will receive in this morning\'s post, she will remember that as I left last night, the words, \'Vincent! How can I get you to LISTEN to me?!?\', were the last things I heard.\"

Uh, that just tells me he wasn\'t mentally stable, not that it was her fault! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Hey, if it\'s unpublished, how did you get an excerpt?

DVK,

My real name is Oscar van Gogh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

C\'mon! You didn\'t really believe that, did you?
I was just fleshing out the legend a bit.
Women get so defensive.

Men often do self destructive things in the name of love. (Marriage being neither the least nor worst of these.) The fact that a woman can make a man crazy doesn\'t imply culpability on her part. It\'s not her FAULT. It\'s just the way it works out sometimes.

Surely Vincent was a disturbed man. There were many forces at play that led to his mental instability. But (as the story goes) it wasn\'t the art critics nor the bill collectors to whom he sent his severed ear, but rather his lady-friend.

Draw your conclusions as you will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Really? I heard it was because he had a constant ringing in that ear that drove him crazy, till he finally cut the ear off to try to make it stop.

\'Course it could\'ve been his ladyfriend calling to see where he was all the time, or the bill collectors wondering when he was going to pay up... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A few years ago I saw a jpeg of a guy who had sliced off his face in little chunks and fed them to his dogs. He was on Angel Dust apparently. There wasn\'t much left of his face except the bone.

Nope. It was much worse than that. Of course I can\'t be sure it was legit. I can only take the description that came with it at face value. It was a seriously disgusting picture though.

I should just mention (for those unfamiliar with it) that Angel Dust is a powerful dissociative and anaesthetic. The guy wouldn\'t have felt a thing. And he wouldn\'t have realised it was his own face he was slicing off, just a piece of meat he was looking at in the mirror. Self-mutilation is apparently quite common for users.

I don\'t know if it was legit, but it wouldn\'t surprise me.
