View Full Version : Men's grooming ....

Hello fellow pheromoners /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There\'s always some smart ass suggesting to be well groomed to you, that\'s a nice and generous suggestion, but did he ever told you how to do it right ? In most cases he won\'t and that\'s where I want to pick up t\'day .. with men\'s grooming.

Grooming isn\'t that hard at all and most of you know the basics I suppose, but I want to take it somewhat more into detail. I\'ll start from the very beginning with the very basic topics and build my way up to the more advanced (and in many cases costly) forms of grooming.

Basics:

Teeth:
In case you are planning to smile from time to time these tiny little white bits might be of interest. In case you have little yellow bits you\'ve done something wrong. Of cause brushing is of utter importance but in many cases it\'s just not enough. Get a mild! bleach from time to time to preserve your bright white smile.

Nails:
It\'s hard to believe for most men, but fingernails are really important to women. I for myself take care of my nails at least twice a week and I get compliments on a frequent basis. The point is, you don\'t want to know what kind of impression you leave in case you don\'t get compliments on this one. The best way to start is to get a manicure from time to time and learn how to do it right. I\'d suggest to get a real manicure at least once in a month till you die. Never, never, never have dirt under your nails, never, period.
Dirty, torn up nails might bring your overall appearance down one to two whole points in her book.

Hair:
Wash your hair at least once daily, preferably in the morning. This is a big nono for women, but it\'s perfectly safe for men. We have much greasier hair and much oilier skin. This was meant to protect us hunters better during harsh weather conditions, it\'s a legacy from the past.

Face:
Don\'t forget to wash your face seperately. Most men wash it while beeing in the shower and don\'t even bother using soap. Use a medical ph-neutral soap to wash your face after you\'ve been in shower/had a bath. Like I said before we have much oilier (and up to thirteen times thicker) skin than women have. You will want to get rid of the excessive oil. Just following this rule will improve your skin.

Advanced:

Ok, ok, first off, don\'t overdo it. In the end you are a man and it\'s not your goal to receive a soft almost female like skin. This might be attractive to some gays, but it\'s definitely not attractive to most women.

There are many different ways for setting up an advanced grooming regime. It has to do with your type of skin mostly, here are some guidelines :

Dry skin:
Wash
Scrub (very very light)
Moisturizer (Don\'t use oils, they\'ll dry your skin out even more)

Normal Skin:
Wash
Scrub/Peel
Moisturizer

Oily skin:
Wash
Scrub/Peel
Oil controling agent

Here is the range set up that I\'ve developed during years of testing ...

Shave and general grooming:
Aramis Lab Series

Lift Off Face Wash
Active Treatment Scrub
Lift Off Plus Multi-Hydroxy-Complex
Tri-Gel Extra Shave Formula
Razor Burn Relief Plus
Instant Moisture Complex
All Day Action Antipersipant Stick

Repair and Body:
Nickel

Amuse Gueule \"The Quicky\"
Lendemain de Fete \"Morning-After Rescue Gel\"
Attention les Yeux \"Eye Contour Lift\"
Super Clean Corps
Corps de Glace \"Body Cooler\"

Note: I can\'t suggest how to use this products because it\'s really up to you. I know meanwhile what my face/body needs. Most of you will die of shock anyway as soon as you see the prices, that\'s what I meant by costly before. The \"Nickel\" range should be named \"Platinum\". There are two things that I\'d consider as \"must have\" :

The anti-persipant stick from Aramis Lab Series (there is just nothing better out there and it lasts ages, I am using the present one for about a year now) and the Amuse Gueule \"The Quicky\" from Nickel, it\'s almost like getting a quick face lift. This is really handy after long journeys or a clubbing night.

I might have forgotten some stuff ... please add things liberately.

What is masculine about having messed up finger nails ? There are many different qualities that come to my mind if I think about masculinity, but beeing unclean and messed up is definitely nothing that shows up in that context. Hey Adam22-

Looks like some good advice here, maybe you should consider it. If you\'re lookin\' to score w/ biker chicks, then grooming is definitely optional. Dirty, f**ked up nails and poor hygeine might work in your favor. However, if you want to get w/ a hottie, then you might want to take a minute and think about how much time, effort and money she spends on grooming to get YOUR attention. Think about it dude. Think it really doesn\'t matter to her? My gal pals hate it (love it) when I pull this one on them. Get this, hangin\' w/ a bunch of friends (mostly couples) and eventually the guys and gals separate and go do their own thing, right. After about 10 minutes, I\'ll go over to the gals and say something like \"are you guys talkin\' about hair?\", with this smirk on my face. 9 times out of 10, they ARE talking about grooming! They give me hell and laugh...and they love it.
Consider this scenario:
You go to the salon and get a manicure. Your lookin\' good and feelin\' good and walkin around knowing that you got the something goin\' on that no others dudes have and that the women *will notice*. You apply your pheros and start becoming a babe magnet. All the other guys are, like, hey dude what\'s up w/ that...what are you doin\' that\'s so different from us. You say something like \"I dunno...must be the manicure I got the other day...heard the chicks dig that so I went for it.\"
Next thing you know all the dudes are booking manicures, because they want to be a babe magnet, like you. You\'ve just started a new trend, quite a coup in this \"rough\" town, don\'t you think. Salon starts offering you free service for brining in so much business...sweeeeet.
Only problem is that the other guys are still not seeing the dramatic results that you are, although the grooming has helped them a bit. It must be that YOU (armed w/ your mones) are just some kind of stud. Adam22 is now da bomb.

Sooooo...I dunno, whadda you think?

I was on a women\'s forum earlier today and we were discussing the pros and cons of acrylic nails and waxing v. shaving ... and how much money we spend on grooming ...

Bikini wax - $35.00
Acrylic nails - $65.00 initial cost plus $40.00 per month upkeep
Eyebrow wax - $20.00 at least once a month
Hair - anywhere from $40.00 to $200.00
Makeup - at least $30.00 a month
Lotion, perfume, moisturizer, etc - another estimated $30.00 per month
Pedicure - $20.00 a month at least, more like $40.00 a month ...

Not to mention the finer points like facials, anywhere from $40 - up ...

Massages - a dollar a minute

You could say we\'re into it, yeah. We notice if your nails are clean and not ragged.

haha..alright im convinced..so much for my masculine egotistical religion...at least when it comes to nails...what color do u think i should paint them to match my blue eyes? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gifhaha jk...but seriously what exactly is a MANICURE?

**DONOTDELETE**
06-06-2003, 01:57 PM
Manicure - they file your nails so they\'re smooth. Then they plunk your fingertips into a bowl of warm water with skin softener in it, to soften your cuticles. Then they push your cuticles back and remove any dead skin with little clippers, so you don\'t have hangnails. Then they wash your hands and put hand lotion on them to remoisturize the skin after the soak, and protect it, since it\'s just been worked on. This is the best part, because they do a hand massage when they put the lotion on, and it feels great.

That\'s about it.

Some men go an extra step and have their nails buffed. I personally think that\'s a little much, but ...

that\'s just sanding them down with a fine grit abrasive buffer and then polishing them with a chamois buffer until the nail surface shines.

If your fingernails are badly ridged, or if your nails are stained for any reason, the manicurist might buff them a little, so that\'s nothing to be alarmed about.

OMG, you know what, Andy? PEDICURES. I\'ve seen some nasty feet on men ... trimming your toenails is not a bad thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Andy
06-06-2003, 02:11 PM
*raises his arm*

I get my nails buffered, just skip the polish at the end. That would be definitely too much and this looks really strange on a man. I had mine polished once and even the girls considered it too much, so cut that.

Yup that\'s right, I\'ve forgotten to mention the pedicure. But I need to visit a medical pedicure specialist every 2 months anyway, because I\'d have a killing amount of cornea on my feet otherwise because of decades of bare feet martial arts. But I\'d suggest to trim/cut the toenails at least.

Where I live we have have spas galore: mineral baths, mud baths, massages, etc. Around here it is not uncommon to find many men spending a day at one of the spas. I gotta tell ya, mud baths are awesome. I had my first pedicure experience about a year ago. A girl I was seeing talked me into going to do the spa thing and I was very reluctant, even though it is very common here. Well, not only did I survive w/ my masculinity in tact, but it was very enjoyable. The best part was having these two beautiful young ladies work on me: one working on my feet, while the other massaged my legs. I definitely didn\'t suck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Besides, why should the ladies enjoy all the pampering...they\'ve been holding out on us long enough, but I know their secret now...and so do you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can endorse manicures on men. When I was working in downtown San Francisco and wearing suits every day, an ocassional manicure really set off the well-dressed look. These days I\'m big on gardening so the cut and bruised hands aren\'t a decent setting for well-cared-for nails. Plus, I already get grief from my slob colleagues for dressing too nicely even though it\'s never more than an ocassional sport coat. They think wearing a faded, strerched-out company logo\'ed polo shirt that\'s been washed 50 times is high style - but that\'s the Silicon Valley nerd style.

It seems like the majority of women can see this in a man though, like they\'re not as ignorant as us guys when it comes to determing when a guy is playing them or when he\'s serious.

I have not gone in to a relationship in which I haven\'t been messed with at one point or another. I admit, yes, I am still young...but it seems like it\'s one of the first couple of phases <sp?> I have to go through b4 a girl will get involved. Lucially, I know how to react to a lot of them and get through the phase quickly...but it\'s still a PITA none-the-less.

I\'ve also had a couple times I couldn\'t get through the games and move on....8 months ago I spent 2 months chasing this girl around thinking I was falling in love with her, only to realize there was nothing going on but her looking for someone better, then me dumping her and being hurt cuz I saw what was coming. It sucked...

ok, crap I\'m tired, I don\'t even make sense to myself right now...gnight

Relationships are very hard work. That\'s the part they don\'t tell you. The movies make it out to be that you find your true love and it\'s all sweetness and light. It\'s not that way, never has been.

Women get massively, incredibly fooled by men all the time. There are men who make careers out of \"find \'em, fool \'em, f*ck \'em, and forget \'em\" and it\'s definitely NOT consentual. There are men who love nothing better than to seduce women and drop them - and by seduce I do not mean get the woman to have sex with them. I mean get the woman to fall in love with them. Under totally false pretenses. When they don\'t love the woman at all but are just using her for meanness, to get back at their mommies who didn\'t nurse them, for whatever whatever reason, I don\'t pretend to understand, but it happens, believe me.

There are some major players out there, game masters of Luv, and women get played and fooled all the time.

If it\'s any consolation.

Don\'t think of it as harmful. Stop that way of thinking. Starting being okay with the idea that you\'re a guy, and you have certain desires. By no means, don\'t be a dick. Just go after what you want. If you want a serious girlfriend, weed out the game-playing bitches. If you want a one night stand, go for the party girls. It all comes down to what YOU want.
