It really bothers me when I see someone holding the sole of their shoe. It\'s always guys. They\'ll have one leg crossed over their thigh. They\'ll grab the shoe of the crossed leg and they will hold the shoe by the sole.

I see this and think, \"This guy is going to want to shake my hand when he leaves. Let\'s see, he\'s just stepped in rat droppings, dog excrement, and some PCBs. What should I do?\"

Howard Hughes never wanted to shake anyone\'s hand. I am not like that, but really. Have they no shame?

OK, now all you sole-huggers can flame me!

And when you think about the state of many men\'s public restroom floors you really have to think that the Arabs have it right - the sole of the shoe is nasty!

As a public health note, the most dangerous strain of SARS may be transmitted by fecal matter so washing one\'s hands should take on increased emphasis these days.

Well, it surely is a cultural thing. The Arabs would view it as insulting. And no wonder Franki\'s never seen it among the Germans, they really do fetishize cleanliness (just kidding!!). I can\'t say I\'ve ever seen an Asian do it.

I\'ve seen this behavior most in salesmen who come to my office. It\'s a real turnoff.
