I have only been in the States for the last 6 months or so after a very lengthy absence, but I was under the impression that it was illegal for companies to send you unsolicited faxes. Well, I am getting a couple every week. What can I do about it?

They could get you in the slammer for that. Seriously, what can be done? If they pass a law like that, there must be some way to enforce it.

I was just joking but Isnt there a way to block their numbers or something? it\'s happened to me before, sometimes faxing them a letter telling them to take you off their list or whatever sometimes works.

It isn\'t a \"Junk fax\" if you have some \"connection\" to them. Did you ever read one of their ads in a magazine? (that\'s how vague the law is)

They all have an 800# you can call to \"get off the list\", but isn\'t that playing into their hand? To get them to stop breaking the law you have to do something to nail them, don\'t you?

I found out that all my junk faxes are coming from FAX.com inc. They are swine. Check the info on them in the junkfax.com FAQ.

Why don\'t you change your phone/fax no?

From where I am phone company changes it for free.

That would be the cowardly thing to do. :-)
It\'s just a matter of time until they get your new number anyway. They are constantly \"war dialing\" as it is called; combing all the possible numbers searching for fax machines. They have to be stopped.

<<<combing all the possible numbers searching for fax machines. They have to be stopped. >>>

If you\'re talking about your private phone lines, there is really not much to do other than changing your numbers.

And the next thing to do is NOT to publicize your numbers in a phone book. You can give that no. only to people that you chose to know your no\'s.

My 2 cents. On other conditions I think you\'ll only wage losing wars on them.

Seadove,
You didn\'t read my post. Also, take a look at the links. Read them thru and I think you will get an idea what\'s going on with the junk faxers. What if I were to suggest to you that you move out of the Middle East to avoid conflict.

Well i guess it comes down to if you have the $$$$$ to sue them, and can trace them go for it. What about a small claims court. Ive had a few problems here in australia, got a unsolicated fax and ignored it twice and its been six months no problem, however with youre business i dunno follow the advice on junkfax.org.
Does anyone else have anything to add.

Watcher,
Take a look at the links would you? It doesn\'t cost a dime to sue them and you collect a minimum of $500. per fax. If it actually goes to court you can get as much as $1500. per fax and you can save them up for 4 years. Fax.com is currently facing a class action suit in the trillions of dollars for junk faxing and they have already paid out many millions in settlements.

Amazing how everything is suable in the states. From where I am it is absolutely useless to sue someone just because he sent you a fax.The judge will probably say \"through the damn paper in the waste basket.\"/ubbthreads/images/icons/crazy.gif

There are other harressments, however, companies and marketing firms use the ordinary phone to convince people to buy products.Just the other day I was on my way to the door to go out with friends and the phone rang.\"Are you interested in buying this or that?\" I had to yell at the phone \"LEAVE ME ALONE\" to get loose of that psychological convincing.
