I wonder about a lot of things in the English language that sound strange to dutch/german ears.

Examples:

\"Married w/3 daughters\" or \"Happily married with two kids (boys 7 and 3).\" LOL, that sounds like you are married with your kids. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

\"The Summit in the Azores\" How on earth can you be IN an island?? Maybe if you are in a cave or a mine or something? In our language one cannot be inside an island, you can only be ON an island. /ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

And can a hand that rocks a cradle be able to KICK a bucket?

The best that it can do is lift it.

We have the same in french : \"marie avec 3 enfants\" = married w/3 kids

The expression is \"married to,\" rather than \"married with.\" So \"married with 3 kids\" would not confuse any native speaker of English. ...

We say \"married with\", so that is where the confusion comes from ... /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif
