View Full Version : Natural Supplements for an enhanced sex life

Was doing some research on the web today and thought I would pass on my results to everyone here. I tried looking up info on the different supplements that would relate to this topic to try and learn why the are benneficial, some where easier to get info about than others. Maybe some of the more educated amongst us can clue us in better than I have. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif
Might be a bit tough to get all these supplements in just a few pills to.

Supplements for greater sexual performance:

525mg Calcium - used in muscle contraction, blood clotting, and maintenance of cell membranes

200 mcg B12 – Helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells. Also helps in the absorption of calcium.

150 mg Vitamin E – powerful biological antioxident, protects cells from effects of free radicals.

25mcg Potassium – maintains water balance, muscle and nerve cell function, heart function and kidney and adrenal functions.

300 mcg Biotin - functions as a coenzyme for carbon dioxide transfer and hence is essential to fat and carbohydrate metabolism (rather confusing trying to dig up info on this one)

200 mcg Selenium - This nutrient is an important part of antioxidant enzymes that protect cells against the effects of free radicals that are produced during normal oxygen metabolism. Selenium is also essential for normal functioning of the immune system and thyroid gland

400 mcg Folic Acid - helps the body form red blood cells and aids in the formation of genetic material within every body cell

Herbs to enhance sexual awareness:

Damania Root (assuming misprint and that its actually damiana root) – Damiana is a strengthening tonic for the nervous system and hormonal systems.
Traditional, it has been used as an aphrodisiac, which may be due to an alkaloid that acts like the male hormone testosterone--an increase which is associated with a heightened level of sex drive in both sexes.

Pumpkin Seed: hulled Pumpkin Seeds contain substances that stimulate sex hormone production. The seeds contain large amounts of zinc, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin B. So, eating a handful of Pumpkin seeds a day may help prevent impotence

Buckwheat Protige: (protige isn’t even a word and searches using the word produced no results. Even then, information on this herb concerning sexual affiliation was nearly non-existent. The following was the closest thing I could find in relation to the topic) bioflavonoid-like compounds that help protect and dilate blood vessels. Reputed to be high in fiber which in turn enhance your energy levels. Buckwheat is high in rutin, which is known to strengthen blood vessels. In clinical trials, rutin has demonstrated its activity by improving venous tone and vein elasticity.

Cranberry Extract: Couldn’t find any info that directly related to sex drive in men for this supplement. It is widely known as a supplement to cure UTI’s in women however. The only thing I could find in relation was a product called Prodige For Men. (I guess prodige is a word and was mispelled above) This product contains the four herbs listed above and can be found here: http://discoveringwellness.hdmenterprises.com/products.htm (\"http://discoveringwellness.hdmenterprises.com/products.htm\")

To increase your ejaculation:

1000-1500 mg L-Arginine daily. Not only will it increase the volume of your ejaculation, it will assist in giving you a harder, firmer erection. Recommendations are 500mg daily and 1000mg an hour or 2 before sex. Cautions were made not to consume to much L-Arginine in a 24 hour period and if any adverse reactions are noted to stop taking immediately.

Here are some others I found that were reputed to aid in a healthy sex life. Found as much pertinent data as possible. Who\'s up for the challenge of figuring out how to get all this stuff into your body? I\'m gettin warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Tribulus terrestris is a testosterone enhancer. Studies show that it works very well when stacked with DHEA and androstenedione.
It increased testosterone levels in a different way, however, than either DHEA or andro do. Instead of being a testosterone precursor,
it leads to the production of the luteinizing hormone (LH). When LH levels are increased, the natural production of testosterone also increases.
LH is a hormone that also deals with sex drive. Now one can understand why it has been used to increase fertility and help with impotence.
Laboratory animal studies found that Tribulus terrestris increased sperm count as well as motility levels after taking it for 30 days.

Horny Goat weed / Epimedium sagittatum:
Epimedium sagittatum appears to be a chinese herbal treatment for the \"promotion of yang energy\". Some people use it to enhance stamina
and/or promote sexual energy. There are currently a lot of herbal products sold which contain Epimedium sagittatum, generally marketted
heavily as sexual enhancers. From a quick survey of available products it looks like 500 - 600 mg is a somewhat standard dose. One of the
primary physiological effects cited by some sources is the dilation of blood vessels, leading to lower blood pressure.
It also appears to have shown some efficacy in treating kidney disorders.

Yohimbe --> Yohimbine:
How does it work? \"by dilating the blood vessels of the skin and mucus membranes, thereby decreasing the blood pressure and increasing the
blood to the surface of the sex organs.\" It will increase the power of erections without increasing sexual excitement.

Kknown to increase blood flow to the extremities, helping to fight impotence.

promotes circulation to the extremities. Mild stimulant. High in Vitamin A, B-Complex, C, protein, Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron, Allicin, and Zinc.
Good for motion sickness! hehe

Mild stimulant. Regulates male/female hormones. Reputed as an aphrodesiac.

Lots of info that can be implied to a healthy sex life here. I\'ll just give you this link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/cattest.htm (\"http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/cattest.htm\")

What supplements are good for females?

05-03-2003, 02:33 AM
The same supplements work for women.

I\'ve seen some supplements that have separate male and female versions, with different packaging, but when you look at the ingregient lists they\'re identical.

BTW, I\'d add Maca to the list of libido enhancers.

Having a bigger load is an unfair thing to do -- its bad enough they got to deal with that stuff in their mouth

Thanatos, how long had you been taking L-Arginine for?

05-03-2003, 07:44 AM
I hadn\'t been taking it for very long when I made that last post. I took a gram a couple hours before hitting the mattress playground to reap the benefits. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

05-03-2003, 06:04 PM
For women - I\'ve been taking 1,000 mg Damiana from GNC twice a day, and the same with L-arginine, and I\'ve had good effects with that.

All the reading I have done on l-arinine state that the effects do not become apparent until 2-4 weeks after 3 grams daily have been used. The doses are supposed to be split into 3 1 gram doses taken on an empty stomach with a high carb drink to help absorption. If you think you notice a difference after one dose, it\'s most likely placebo.

L-arginine is a precursor to Nitric Oxide which is neccessary for a healthy erection. It takes a while for you body to build up enough l-arginine and to metabolize it into NO.

I noticed a difference after about 12 days and the effects continud to improve for a couple of more weeks.

06-04-2003, 09:40 AM
So 3g supplement daily combined with a normal healthy diet, should start producing results after about 2 weeks?

06-04-2003, 07:32 PM
Like phersurf said, it will take time for the NO efefct to build up which is what helps with stronger and longer lasting erections. Iv\'e never had a problem with that, I took it for the increased semen volume which works within an hour or 2 before the big event.
Lots of good info in the other arginine thread on dosages and whatnot. 3 grams sounds pretty good to me spread out through the day on an empty stomach. Would be pretty tough to OD on this stuff as its just a basic amino acid found in food. Just don\'t go whacko with it and take 20 grams a day or sumthin. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
