This is a very good idea to check all incoming posts before they are allowed on the forum, good move bruce.
Should stop those spammers from causing to much trouble.

I tottaly agree with You guys, it is so much nicer to be in a \"clean\" forum with good and useful information. There is many peoples, that need to have a knowlege exchange, specially with so serious matter, as pherromones. Allso, this forum will give good first impression to visitors from \"outside\", they will become intereste, for Bruce\'s good. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

It is just for the purpose of catching the recent attacker and hopefully getting him brought to justice. Once the guy is in the slammer, life will return to normal.

Yeah, what the heck~ No big deal. I don\'t have a problem with temporary moderation.

We\'re allowed to pretty much run amok 99% of the time. /ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Moderators are only keeping an eye out for obvious attacks on the forum (ie: numbnuts). Everything else is checked in vivo by me as usual.

So, lets say this post I just posted was reviewed by the moderators or just you Bruce?

What\'s going on tonight? Why is everybody home on Friday night? Normally I come home on Friday night to find maybe....I don\'t know....1 or 2 new posts on Friday evening. Some Friday nights I find that nobody has posted anything all night.

Of course, tonight, now that I\'m moderating, EVERYBODY is home posting. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

I really thought I was going to get to nap tonight. Guess not. /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

I understand the reasoning, but I think it could be employed differently, if it\'s too much work (what I\'m about to suggest) then forget it as I realize it is easier to just have all posts moderated.

My suggestion is to moderate posts from people that have under a certain amount of posts already. Or possibly combine with the amount of time they have been a member. The reason I suggest this is one of the reasons I go to message boards is for immediate feedback, if I make a post in 3 in the morning, I\'m pretty sure it will not get posted until like 8 or 9 am the next day.

But like I said if the programming would be too complex to implement by all means leave it as is.

Funny thing is I did not see this post, so when I went to make a post previously & I got that message that my post was \"under review\" I was like damn, what did I post previously that caused my account to be red flagged! /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry 1 more post to try & reinforce my opinion.

This board is already kind of slow as it is (no offense) I think it\'s just lower in membership then other boards I frequent that have close to 20k members, I will probably visit the forums even less frequently now, not to protest - only because the usefulness I think has gone down a little.

Okay enough ranting, time to go running & hit the bars.

Peace Out.

I can\'t speak for Bruce, and he\'ll probably jump in here eventually. But, at the moment, I don\'t believe this forum software is that sophisticated.

Is\'nt this an old version of UBBThreads? i\'ve seen alot of other sites with much more sophisticated message boards than this site, thats probably why this site is so vulnerable to attacks. Maybe an upgrade is what the doctor ordered.

What was the attack, anything worth mentioning? Was it that guy bad mouthing l-s & bruce? Or was there some guy spamming some porno site or other commercial site?

Dude... We had pictures (i.e. NOT Bambi. ) and everything coming through. Some people were even getting imposter PMs .

1.) I think the moderators should get a free love-scent sample for their efforts ?
2.) im totally for the moderators to catch this spammer
3.) Any idea why this site is being spammed
4.) I cant reply to PMs at the moment, anyone else having this problem, is this part of the current problem.

And good work to the 3 moderators.

Hey Dude /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

I had no idea, didn\'t mean to be devil\'s advocate, just didn\'t know how bad it was, now I know.

I realize the initial response is for total lock down, but maybe through proper use of technology we do not need to go through such extremes /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

I am open to all these suggestions. The attack was certainly serious enough to warrant extreme measures. The forum would have been overrun by hundreds of porn photos in a matter of minutes if we hadn\'t acted, and I deeply appreciate the help both moral and technical I have received.

I know there is at least one upgrade to the present UBB threads software available. I will check into installing that as soon as I get home. If that doesn\'t do the trick, I iwll have our programmer install a system for moderating new registrations. That should be enough to solve the present problem. Another thing we could do is elevate all regular members to the \"moderator\" status; eg: folks who have been responaible members for six months or so. Their posts would appear immediately.

A much better idea bruce, we could then also let u know immediatley of any trouble or you could choose a select few like u have done and set down guidelines as to what they should delete in terms of what has happened etc in way of spamming.
The upgrade sounds like a good idea.

Hate to tell ya, but this isn\'t going to happen re: getting him brought to justice. You need to have at least $5000 in provable damages before most LEA\'s will even consider looking into it.

Doesn\'t UBB have the ability to let \"verified\" members\' posts through immediately, and shunt the rest off for moderator approval?

Bruce

There are several upgrades available for this software. I\'m not sure what sort of security functions have been added. At the moment, moderators can post immediately. I would have to give all the regulars moderator status to get that effect.
