View Full Version : Amber base a good cover for TE?

I\'m still trying to find something I like with Edge. I got a cheap Avon cologne for experimenting with -- Far Away. (Kinda funny. Like, \"if you\'re gonna wear that, stay Far Away!\") anyway, it has an amber base and that seems to stomp down the stench.

Anyone else have similar observations?

Forgive my ignorance, but what does an amber base smell like?

somewhere between sandelwood and jasmine i\'d say..that help?..probably not,,some musky smell, yet still flowery too, though nowhere near as flowery as jasmine, it does cover my TE though it fades faster than the TE smell and has to be refreshed. but then most others on me do too so..

i use a 18 drops sandelwood base with drops of amber/jasmine/lavender/citrus/rose/vanilla..now that covers it real good all night

Amber
Fragrance notes that are similar
to natural amber. This olfactory
note is difficult to describe: Oily-
woody with metallic elements,
but also slightly nutty with a
nuance of seawater. The scent of
amber is somewhat reminiscent
of human hair. Natural amber
consists of pathological secretions
of the sperm whale. Since this
whale population has unfortu-
nately been decimated, true amber
is a rarity today and very expen-
sive. However there are imitations
that come quite close to the na-
tural note, such as amber Vites-
sence, as well as amber notes
of botanical origin, such as lab-
danum.

I don\'t like jasmine and I don\'t like amber either, I\'m finding out. This crap is making me sick. It\'s just too heavy. I don\'t think I\'m going to be able to wear ProEdge. I can\'t find anything that makes it bearable.

Wolfe - just a reminder - we\'re talking about women\'s formula Edge - any help you have re cover for that, which you have experimented with yourself, I\'d appreciate! Thanks, babe.

wish i could sweetie, the formula i use i listed above and don\'t think it\'d work on you /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif (touch to musky i bet)
thats why i asked if you had both, 2-3drops amber+1jasmine might be better then either alone but if you dont like either a mix might not work either.
it is very hard (IMHO) to cover TE long term, i have to refresh my cover every couble hrs or the TE bleeds through, though my blends last twice as long as a single cover seems too.
the amber you using right now isnt a EO though right?,,but a perfume that has amber?

ok, i reread you post and it is a perfume
so now i have a prob sometimes with the changes that happen to the alcohol used in cologne/perfumes turning rancid and making me sick..EO\'s dont do that to me

jasmine and amber together would make me puke, I\'m not exaggerating

you might try citrus, it\'s a decent cover but kinda fruity /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif (like a pink grapefruit to me)

Oscar was so kind as to pm me and point out that the information given about amber pertains to ambergris, from sperm whales, now made synthetically. Amber is a tree resin.

My apologies. I did a quick search, that website looked credible, and I pasted without reading as closely as I should have.

I also did a search in makeupally, which Woman recently told me about, for amber fragrances, and came up with a long list for future sniffing next time I go to Sephora.

But so far, no luck, and this Far Away\'s getting returned. Blech.

Ah well. Thanks for the correction. I know they originally got one of the plant growth hormones from autoclaving whale sperm. It\'s amazing where some of these things come from.

Honestly though, don\'t you wonder what was going through the minds of the \"scientists\" in that lab that resulted in them autoclaving whale sperm????? I guess no matter the age, boys will be boys. (Thank God.:) )

That constant urge to tinker with stuff. Amazing. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif Hey -- I had the ProEdge and cologne on the entire day, took a shower last night around midnight and used pretty strongly scented shower gel - when I came OUT of the shower, I liked the way I smelled. Could still smell the ProEdge. Unbelievable.

Oh yeah, guilty here. Which explains that \"D\" in Chemistry that one nine-weeks in high school: \"What would happen if we do this?\" hehe
