Guess I just not up-to-date on current slang, but could anyone explain the meaning and origin of the phrase \"420\"?

Correct me if I\'m wrong, but I believe the term 420 initially came from Los Angeles, as it was the Police Code for Narcotics. (just like 187 is homicide) Either Distribution or Sales fell in to the 420 code. Since then it\'s been labeled national smoke day and time.

It\'s standard typical reference is in relation to Marijuana.

From what I\'ve heard, it\'s related to a crook or a phony. Don\'t ask. lol. This is what I\'ve heard.

I thought national pot smoking day was the first Saturday of April. Or maybe that was just a U of M thing.

420 in the Sanskrit language is pronounced:
CHAR SO BEESS
Which also means a bluffer, a joker, and is common slang in India.

I\'m not joking.

Can I use that on some of my Indian colleagues? Would they be offended or can it be used in a good natured way?

The Indian people are nice warmhearted folks and they understand and laugh with you with a typical shake of their heads.
Now you can say:
\"Hey, CHAR SO BEESS, come here.\"
Or \"What a CHAR SO BEESS you are\"
Or \"Stop CHAR SO BEESSING me\"
They will laugh, it\'s common and you are not hurting their feelings.
Go ahead.

Four and twenty years ago
I come into this life
The son of a woman
and a man who lived in strife
She was tired of being poor
and he wasn\'t into selling door to door ...
