If you say someone smells badly, you\'re saying that their sense of smell is not functioning properly.

If you say someone smells bad, that means you don\'t like the way they smell.

(Think about it - you wouldn\'t say someone smells nicely, right? You\'d say they smell nice or they smell good. Same deal with saying they smell bad.)

Since we talk about it so much, fwiw.

Because we must mind our manners and take great care not to offend.

At first. That one flew right over my head. But then it managed to hover just long enough for me to follow.

And if you say you feel poor, that means you don\'t have much money.

But if you say you\'re feeling poorly, that means you\'re sick.

And from England.

But one would dress \"hotly\" - in a manner that would make them appear \"hot\" to other people.

This is a a great service Red is providing to all us, the undereducated semi-literates. Please pay attention.
