Bump. Anyone out there

Well, the following are some smells that I wear that I have been complented upon a lot. Mainly worn with pheros.

I should also point out that a cologne that might smell great on one person may not smell so great on someone else due to individual skin chemistry. So test\'em before you buy and let them wear down on your skin for a couple of hours.

CK One (Yeah, common but they love it!)
Joop! (String stuff, you either love it or hate it. Luckily I love it!)
Ultraviolet
Chrome (For some reason girls love this stuff!)
Burberry (Nice and fresh, I really like this.)
Allure
Envy (Best for evening use)

Smells are great... /ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

can you spray them on your shirt so than skin chemistry wont matter.

Colognes are there to be applied on your skin. They also have to react with your skin bacteria (just like pheromones) to get the effect you want.

Joop and CK one work great as non phero colonges -add pheros and the effect is as usuall multiplied many times.

The skin bacteria loves pheromones thats what makes them so useful. None is a little problematic with the breakdown effect better for clothing nol however does some intereesting things however. If you are using attraction i would recommened however gettting the unscented version. But it will still get the desired effect you want to get.

If this can be of any help, and even if i\'m not sexually attracted to men, I just love Kenzo pour homme - great scent of beach, ocean water, bamboo and quietness !
Anyone wearing this, I really have a look at him/her !
Eau Sauvage is nice, though i find it a bit too strong now that i\'ve discovered Kenzo.
Hugo Boss (don\'t remember which one) is very nice too.

BUMMMMMMMMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far we\'ve only heard from the men.

COME ON LADIES.......let\'s hear some of your thoughts on the matter....which men\'s fragrances make you sit up and notice?

Ummmm .. frenchie is a girl, the fact she doesn\'t like men won\'t make a guy out of her /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif.

@Frenchie
It\'s sad but most Americans and Aussies seem to dislike Kenzo.

frenchie
08-08-2002, 03:57 AM
Sad for Kenzo, indeed !
I think Kenzo enhances the feminine part of a man - i.e, his sensibility or his \"finesse\", and a man wearing such a cologne seems nicer, easier to have a discussion with. Well, this is the kind of men I prefer as friends - and they are not especially gay !
I had a friend who wore Kenzo, and everybody kept saying how nice he was, as it really made everything easier, even tough discussions. I must say he was nice, even without this cologne !
Maybe Kenzo is not made for men who don\'t want to show their feminine part, or for those who feel they must not do so (for any reason).
Anyway, I\'m french, and Kenzo really turns me on !

SOLD!

Based on Frenchie\'s effusive recommendations, I just ordered a mini of Kenzo via eBay from Hong Kong. It had good reviews on BaseNotes.com and elsewhere so I thought I\'d give it a trial (for less than $10 USD total.)

Since I am a big fan of Eau Sauvge myself, I take Frenchie\'s recommendation seriously - she must have good taste!

What\'s up everyone? Back in December I was wearing \"Emporio Armani\" cologne, and after a few short words with a female I got her number (I didn\'t ask for it, she just gave it to me).......and I wasn\'t wearing pheros.......I didn\'t even know about them back then. LOL Oh, and if you\'re wondering...she did compliment on the cologne. The cologne comes in a cylinder shaped matte black bottle. I also use Bulgari Black, and Bulgari Blue almost everyday and I always get compliments on them as well.

@Whitehall
I wouldn\'t buy Kenzo from E-Bay, it\'s one of the 5 most faked scents. The risk of buying a fake bottle is high enough in usual stores, I\'d buy it only from perfume-stores. (I\'d keep my hands of it, especially when it\'s sold for under $10USD).

franki

Frenchie, can you tell me WHICH cologne from Hugo Boss you would recommend.

I already have Hugo Boss Elements and Hugo Boss Elements Aqua and I am happy with them as they seem to work well with the heavy none products IMHO.

frenchie

Sorry Franki, I can\'t remember their names. I have tried 3 or 4 of them, and at least 2 were very nice. I\'ll have to go to a special perfume shop and have a try !

I tried obsession, it smelled like vinegar on me /ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif , has anyone had good results with it?

BassMan
08-09-2002, 06:26 PM
I love Obsession. I find it very cold weather and Xmas\'y, so I\'m not wearing it during the summer. I wore it all through the cold season, with a little none mixed in - Andro 4.2, I think. Very nice.

**DONOTDELETE**
08-09-2002, 06:30 PM
maybe its my skin chemistry, but i tried like 4 other colognes, and the spot where I think i tried it smelled really bad (it could have been another cologne though, ill try again)

BassMan
08-09-2002, 06:34 PM
Skin chemistry is _everything_ when it comes to cologne, so it might just not work for you. Obsession smells to me like all the Xmas smells - very spicy and warm. It is almost overwhelmingly strong. I use probably 1/3 of what I would with a weaker scent.

Ok... from my own personal experience the colognes women can\'t seem to shut up about, (on me), are;

Higher by Dior (several chicks now simply ask \"you\'re wearing that sex cologne again aren\'t you?\") - highly recommended.

Issey Miyake.
212 by Carolina Herrera.
Quasar by J. Del Pozo.
Chrome by Azzaro.
Bvlgari BLV.
Premium by Phat Farm.

I have always had compliments when wearing Chanel Allure from both younger (20+) and (I hate to use the word) \"older\" (30-40) women.

CK Eternity and Escape works well in the summer.

If anyone can track down any \"Borsalino\", it\'s definitely worth it judging from women\'s reactions. It has a unique spicy, sharp and elegant fragrance unlike anything else. The company in Milan that made it has gone bust. I picked up 13 x 3.4oz bottles in Port of Spain airport duty free where they were selling it off for about $5 each (used to be $60).

Wonder where the rest of the women on the forum have disappeared to.

camusflage
08-10-2002, 07:45 AM
My best reactions have always come from:

212 (universal, an amazing lavender-woody-citrus fougere)
Allure (all ages, a rich and subdued oriental)
A*Men (mostly younger, a brash, sweet oriental)
Envy (the ULTIMATE formal scent, a lush, close-hanging oriental)
Escada (mostly older, a sweeter oriental with a quiet and understated elegance)
Herrera (all ages, a warm, spicy, deep fougere)
L\'Eau D\'Issey (all ages, a woody-floral masterpiece)
Platinum Egoiste (all ages, another warm and mossy fougere)

As far as what works for a guy, a whole lot goes into it. Skin chemistry is a biggie, both as far as how a scent will last on you and how it smells. A good fragrance will have quite literally hundreds of components. Each person\'s skin will break every one of them down differently, giving a fragrance a totally different character between people.

Also, age, style, and target need to be taken into consideration. While Aqua di Gio may be appropriate for a 21 yo college student out clubbing for the evening, it\'s not right for a 40 yo professional at a social function. Me, I\'m late twenties, reasonably built, and have a very unique style that tends toward the upscale. Not coincidentally, the colognes I wear are cut from exactly the same cloth.

Thanks for the warning but it\'s $10 for a mini which seems the right price. It\'s not too much to risk so I\'m going for it. I will keep your warning in mind though.

So that\'s what Kenzo smells like! (Just got my package from Hong Kong.) Frenchie mentioned bamboo but I wouldn\'t be able to recognize that scent if it hit me on the head. It does smell \"quiet\" and serene. Frenchie raved about this stuff and it is good and certainly different from anything I\'ve tried before. I tend to musk and vetiver. Eau Sauvage is stronger, more attention-getting, and more stimulating with its citrus top note.

Now the question is, why do Japanese companies selling cologne to Americans insist on using French in the product names?

I used the Kenzo this morning and added a couple of dabs of NPA and they seem compatiable. The Kenzo is still apparent after three hours. The Kenzo does not \"cover\" the -none but they do seem to mix well together. I would have to defer to the judgment of others on whether they are \"good\" together but they work together well enough for me.

08-27-2002, 10:11 AM
A few more colognes that I found compatible with NPA, Attraction & PI/m are Pleasures/m, Agua di Gio, 273/m and 360/m if you can still find them. They cover the not so pleasant scents of the un-scented pheros.

Givenchy and Versace make some of the best fragrances that I\'ve been around. In the past year I\'ve also picked up Mont Blanc\'s new fragrance (deep woodsy/musky smell but not overly strong so probably a good covering scent.. but a bit pricey too unfortunately)

I was going to mention Polo because it brings back steamy memories from ....way back when....but now I like a lot of the newer lighter fragrances on men. Too bad I don\'t know the names of the colognes. But they are definitely not on the \"sweet\" (cloying) side, I don\'t like sweet fragrances on most people, especially on men. I like a clean, showery smell, with maybe some hints of spiciness.

Aaron, I have always liked Chanel fragrances, maybe I should hit a department store and just smell my way around the men\'s fragrance department....

I definitely think one\'s body chemistry has a lot to do with scents though, it\'s true for me.

edit: woodsy, mossy, yes those are good...sorry I am not a conisseur (sp) I will now have an excuse to go shopping (!) and go smell some colognes, will report back ASAP!!! (probably not tonight, stores are closed)

I\'ve mentioned Gaultier\'s Le Male - but, one spray, two at the most. It\'s very concentrated but it dries down to something that smells really sexy to me ...

FTR:

When I wear \"Le Male\" 98% of the times while wearing it, I always get compliments from women. I agree with using 1-2 sprays of it, it does get pretty strong, however it does last long which is good.

**DONOTDELETE**
08-30-2002, 03:06 AM
A friend bought Le Male recently on my recommendation and I asked him how he liked it. He said he liked it fine, and commented that after it dries down, it smells like .... are you ready? ... BABY POWDER!!

If you like Higher, try Image by Cerutti. A little more complex and spicy, but very pleasing top notes. Light enough for daywear, and a nice alternative to Higher so you don\'t burn out. I think they both contain pear notes...

BassMan
08-30-2002, 06:25 AM
LeMale: Started out smelling (and tasting) like baby powder. Dried down nicely. By the next morning, all that was left was the musk. Very musk. Interesting.

Over the weekend I will make a LeMale-favored body spray.

FTRH - Girlfriend wears Ferre 20, which isn\'t the best for her but is ok. She also likes Cool Water for women, which suits her well.

I prefer women to wear light fresh clean (florals, citrus, or fruit) fragrances of any kind, which is the type I usually prefer for myself unless it\'s a dress-up affair. The heavy musk, or too-rich/sweet orientals just don\'t appeal to me, although I know it\'s a matter of personal taste. My only advice is to use moderation if the perfume is very rich or musky. Any quality perfume is fine, even if not my favorite, as long as it is not applied to heavily.

I read that they have conducted tests that showed people tend to choose fragrances that complement and accentuate their own natural scent. We can learn something about our own scent signature by the colognes we choose...

**DONOTDELETE**
08-30-2002, 07:02 AM
We have similar noses. I like bright greens and citrus, a little floral is fine thrown in, but as soon as it heads much toward bass notes I feel like I can\'t breathe and if its too sweet it makes my head ache

So, you don\'t care, as long as it\'s not spicy.

So tried on Kenzo and some AE and sat down for some coffee in a little shop on Haight Street in San Francisco and, wouldn\'t you know it?, I found myself in a deep and flattering conversation with three French lesbians! They wouldn\'t let me alone! But when they started to extoll the pleasures of strap-ons, I beat feet.

I\'m going to have to be more careful following Frenchie\'s advice!

Irish
08-30-2002, 07:29 AM
Yep - for my own wear I really gravitate toward simple-fresh scents without too much richness or complexity. And I like a strong, dominant, pleasing note or two that define the scent clearly for me. Vague scents leave me struggling to pin them down - more work than pleasure. And when its overly spicy or rich it just overloads my nose instead of lightly uplifting my mood. On women I like the same sort of scents with even a lighter touch.

Cerruti Image for men is a personal favorite of mine because it keeps its spicy complexity under control and balances it with super-pleasant light topnotes. Higher does the same thing with even less complexity in the scent. Givenchy Pour Homme just flat smells good - if you like it, it would make a good gift for your boyfriend, especially for evening wear.

On a cologne-related mailing list I\'m on, one of the (gay) folks wrote that Le Male is to today\'s gay male generation what Obsession is to yesterday\'s...

I dig on the sweet orientals. I love Escada, A*Men, Animale Animale, Casran, Lempicka, and Yohji Homme, but for some reason, I simply can\'t stand Le Male. That or Boucheron Jaipur, for that matter. They both seem to be cut from the same cloth, and while they\'re both well put together, I can\'t stand either of them.

Ok, this is sort of an update to my previous post. Lately I\'ve gotten good female reactions to these colognes:
