View Full Version : A1 Odor Question (for Bruce or Anyone)

Hi All,
For the past six months I've been mixing A1 with SOE and/or A7 with some good success. The
women I'm around have commented how relaxed they feel in my presence. I've been using the half-strength A1. It
never had a detectable odor, even if I used up to six drops at a time.
Since I'm going through it pretty
quickly, I decided to buy the full strength stuff. I got it today. I opened the bottle and could smell a strong
musky odor. I put on only two drops, and the scent is very strong!!! If I didn't know better I would say it is
androstenone, because it smells exactly like A7 to me.
Has anyone else had experience with A1 and its odor? Why
would the half-strength stuff have no odor and the full strength stuff smell so strong?
I'm concerned the
strong odor will cause ODs at a low level.
Bruce, do you have any ideas about this?
Thanks,
CAT

Pheromones all have an odor.
A1 has a musky odor. I don't find it unpleasant, but I like musky odors.
There is a difference between
smelling musky and stinking. Musky smells have always been the favorite of humans.
My first impression of A1
was that it smelled a little warm and hippie-like, without the pissy impression -none leaves me with.
With
-none you can become sensitive to its smell with continued exposure. There are probably other -mones this is true
of.
Use one drop of the strong stuff, spread out around your body, with your normal cologne or essential oils,
let it dry for a half hour, then see if you think it stinks. My guess is no.
Then ask a lady friend how it
smells. My guess is fine.
Pheromones are supposed to stink in lab concentration, but improve your smell with the
proper dosage and application.

Thanks DrSmellThis,
That makes a lot of sense. Ironically, I'm starting to really like the musky odor of unscented A7 and sometimes
wear it just for the odor, not the attraction properties!
What had me most confused was the fact the the
half-strength A1 I bought never had any odor, even when I used many drops. Maybe I got a bad batch?

Why on earth would you
immediatly conclude bad batch, after reading my post?

I think we have a
miscommunication here.
Since you reminded me that all mones have an odor, I was suggesting that the ORIGINAL
batch may have been bad because it didn't have any odor, even though it was a half-strength product. I used it at
very high dosage and never smelled any odor, while the new batch has a definite odor at a low dosage (like it
should).

You may have aquired a
sensitivity, or just not smell it at that strength out of the bottle.

I also have concentrated A-1,
bought here at LS and another unmentionable place. And, yes, they smell like musky BO to my nose, sort of a mellow
androstenone-like funk. I find it unpleasant and cover the hell outta it. And, yes, I've worn it uncovered and got
negative comments about it from my Asian GFs, so it does stink and need cover.
It's been a couple years since I
used the half strength A-1. However I recall it having little smell beyond the alcohol.
Despite the animalistic
funk of A-1, it does indeed work well and I'd never be without it in my kit.

Yes Gegogi,
That's
exactly what I noticed-- the half strength stuff just smells like alcohol, no matter how much I put on. I still have
some of it left and I still can't smell the musk no matter how deeply I whiff the bottle.
The full strength
stuff, however, I can smell with the bottle open from a few feet away.
I just find it hard to believe there
would be such a strong concentration threshold.

I just got my first A1 and
to me it smells when you put it on but after smearing it around your wrists the smell disappears.. at least to me..
It's the full streng and it has a little alcohol smell to it, sorta NPA like almost..
But to me it disappears
after a few sec. when not like a drop and smeared in..

I must be really sensitive
to this batch. I smeared in 2 drops of A1 yesterday, by rubbing my forearms together (I like to use A1 on my
forearms because it's the mone I want the ladies to encounter first).
Since then, I've swam in a pool,
showered, and taken a hot tub. And I can still definitely smell the A1 on my forearms if I take a good whiff within
a few inches.

I can smell A-1 on my arm the
next day--several inches away--and when the wind blows right. It's stinky stuff right behind androstenone as far as
being rank. Both batches--LS--and another supplier are equally funked up.

Thanks for the
confirmation, Gegogi,
It's good to know I'm not the only one who finds the A1 odor strong-- Yes, a close
second to -NONE!
Since the odor is so strong, now it's time to figure out how easy it is to OD with A1 like it
is with -NONE. I'm going to push the limit, and encourage anyone else to share their stories about OD'ing with
just A1.

P.S. By the way, I found an interesting study about how the odor of A1 becomes less appealing
the more you are exposed to it! So, it's possible that the OD threshold might keep dropping the more your friends
are around you. I wonder if this happens with any other mones as well.

Androstadienone is a steroid found in human sweat and other secretions. It has been
widely proposed as a candidate for a human pheromone. As an odorant it possesses some unique properties. Here we
demonstrate that, firstly, there is a very wide range of thresholds in the human population, and they are not
normally distributed. Secondly, repetitive exposure causes a decrease in detection threshold of more than four
orders of magnitude, and thirdly, accompanying this sensitization process is a change in the perceived odor quality.
Those with low to intermediate sensitivities ascribe to it a wide range of odor descriptors across the hedonic
scale, but as these individuals become sensitized, their description changes to predominantly putrid. We propose
that this change in odor quality reflects the presence of at least two receptor populations for
androstadienone; a low-affinity receptor conveying pleasant
odor qualities and a high-affinity receptor mediating unpleasant odor qualities. We further propose that repetitive
exposure results in the increased expression of the high-affinity receptor thereby shifting the balance of
perception to the negative end of the hedonic scale.

Weird... I posted a reply
below about 15 minutes ago, but it didn't bump the topic up the list.
Please do see my posting... I am curious
about A1 and OD effects.

I've worn A-1 for about 3 years
and not suffered a single OD, but I've always covered it. Some wearers report depression when wearing a few dabs of
A-1, so that's the nearest thing to an OD I can think of.

Gegogi-
What's the
greatest amount of A1 you've ever used at once?
