For those who don't know, the

movies called "world's fastest indian" , it's a great story staring Anthony Hopkins and well worth watching if you

like a good "real bloke" story, FYI: I'm originally from his home

town....

Yeah, great movie folks. Hours

worth of great "special features" including the full-length documentary of the man's (Burt Munro) life. Anthony

Hopkins is fantastic.

Gaf,

No kidding? Were you there when they made the movie? They say that that little

garage they shot the movie in was actually a bike gang garage of some sort.

When I was in college, two of my

room mates were in an ummm "motorcycle club", ya, that's it, a "motorcycle club", and one of them had an old Indian

that he rode. The other had a Harley, I had a Triumph ("Limey").

I owned a few bikes myself in my

"younger" days.
Honda 90cc (bought new for $335. when I was in high school)
Honda 450cc (bought new for $990. in

1970 I think it was)
Triumph Bonneville (a 1969 bought used for about $900. I think)
Another Bonney (1972 or

around there, not sure what I paid)

Both my Bonnies got stolen, got the '72 back, sold it and went back to

school, which marked the end of my wild years in 1973. I've been boring ever since, but still alive anyway.

The

Bonnevilles (what I had) were "officially" called the T-120, because out of the box they'd do 120 MPH, and leaked

oil like a champ.

Reminds me of a joke:
Do you know why the British didn't invent the Internet?

They

couldn't figure out how to make it leak oil.

I live at the opposite end of the country now... Not sure about the garage but I can

ask someone who worked on the film next time I see him. Regarding vintage bikes , Im a vespa fan ! As a teenager I

brought old vespas and fixed them up for the fun of it. To be honest, the bigger bikes just scared the bejessus out

of me, but I still appreciated the beauty of the engineering.

I had a friend with a T-120, and we'd ride together a

lot. I had (for shame) a Kawasaki 750 triple which I bought for an out-of-tune-song, which was all I could manage

before voice lessons. We called the Bonneys "Thumpers", my "Cow" was a banshee, and known for its off-the-line

performance which at the time, I think, was second to none. The Triumphs were much classier bikes.

If I were to

buy a bike today I think I'd be a BMW. A friend of mine has an RS1200 (?) and its nothing short of a work of

art.

PS The Anthony Hopkins movie was great! If you like that kind of movie and like horses you might also check

out Hidalgo, a wonderful film.
