Does anyone have any idea on

whether or not you can get fat/put on weight from drinking wine?

If you drink 3500 kcals of wine

in excess of what you burn off, you will gain one pound. This goes for any caloric source.

Here's an excellent link for figuring the calorie (and other) content of foods.

http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

You

can also change the quatity in front of the item you just checked.

I looked up 6 oz of red wine and that's

about 130 calories.

But Mobley - Do you know what's an excellent food for losing weight??? --- FISH! My

favorite is fresh tuna steaks (but at $7.99/lb they're not cheap!)

I also just discovered Lipton's Carb

options Cream of Chicken Cup of Soup. One cup is only 35 cals and you can make it with more than 1 cup of water. Not

that I'm doing the low carb thing, but it's pretty filling for only 35 calories.

Any alcohol you consume will be

used by your body for fuel. If you don't need that fuel, it's stored as fat. With alcohol it's a double edged

stinker 'cos as your liver tries to "use" it, it stops the liver dealing with other substances which causes a fatty

deposit to build up.

Therefore another useful rule of

mine is:

Don't drink and eat! :nono:

PS Capt is right - Calories from alcohol go directly into the

bloodstream and the body starts burning that right away. Whatever you ate has then plenty of time to find a spot of

choice to deposit itself to!

I know where that choice

spot is on me and wish it was a foot up and in front.
