Alpha vs Beta

Do you all really

believe men can be categorized this patently? I'm quite sure that if you asked a bunch of people which I am,

you'd get a 50/50 split depending on where I know them. (gym vs work vs socially)

I know several people who are

clearly a soft beta coating over a hard alpha core. I've interacted with those that are alpha facaded betas-many

bullies are this way.

So, do these distinctions exist? Do they have any predictive value or use?

As with all stereotypes, they help predict general behavior. However, everyone is different and does not always

fit the classifications perfectly. Such is the nature of the stereotype: they're classifications that give a

person background information on a new stimulus that resembles previously encountered stimuli. It is the basis for

survival in the wild (a tiger attacked me a long time ago; therefore, all tigers may be a threat), but it can be

both beneficial (if a guy with a certain personality hurt you, maybe you'll learn to stay away from that

personality type in the future) or detrimental (one guy is a jerk, so they must all be jerks) in today's society.

The word stereotype, of course, has a negative connotation.
