I

think I need some help with the math here...

If I want to dilute an essential oil mix in a carrier oil every

book I have read recommends a 5% mix, but I have read several different ways of making this 5% which confuses

me:

One source said that I should take 100 ml carrier oil and mix it with 5 ml essential oil, thus making it

5 % since 5 ml / 100 ml = 0.05 = 5 %.

Another source said that 95 ml carrier oil and 5 ml essential oil give

a 5 % solution.

I am inclined to accept the latter, since the *whole* volume is 100 ml and 5 ml of this 100ml

is essential oil, thus 5% dilution.

Do I assume correctly or am I just stupid?

100 plus 5 = 105.

5/105 is not

5 percent.

5/100 is.

95 plus 5 = 100.
